The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce was founded in 1911, and is the Wisconsin chamber of commerce and largest business trade association representing more than 3,500 employers of every size and from every sector of the economy. In 2014 it recognized nine Wisconsin companies for their annual "Business Friend of the Environment" (BFOE) award. Among the nine companies recognized were Bombardier Recreational Products Evinrude and Brunswick Mercury Marine operations.

BRP Evinrude in Sturtevant was recognized for their design and testing of specialized outboard engine exhaust gas emission testing devices for engines operating on an experimental fuel, isobutanol. Isobutanol fuel is biologically produced fuel being tested and evaluated as a possible alternative fuel to replace gasoline as a cleaner and more environmentally friendly fuel for marine use. BRP developed a new instrument and test method called the marine portable bag sampling system (MPSS). The MPSS is described as a first of its kind instrument device that allows field testing of outboard engine emissions while the engine is operated on the water, instead of in a laboratory. In addition, BRP was cited for development of new instrumentation methods to sample particulate matter emission from outboard engines.

Brunswick Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac was recognized for the development of a "one of a kind" propeller, the ENERTIA ECO, which is said will increase fuel efficiency by ten percent in high-horsepower outboard engines. The invention of a digital display called the ECO-gauge, which shows the instantaneous fuel economy of the boat, engine speed, boat speed, and engine trim, was also cited because it will advise boaters on how to get the best fuel efficiency.

Interesting regarding the Enertia Eco propeller. In the other thread, it does not appear to be any more efficient than a BRP Rebel between 27 and 40 MPH.
