Went to Charleston this weekend to sail with a friend and am glad to report that Whalers were very well represented. Every, and I mean every, large yacht I saw with a tender had a whaler on board. Saw several classic Outrages in the harbor. Classic Montauks were well represented, saw at least four or five. The Charleston Yacht Club has a 16 Dauntless as their service/courtesy boat. There were a couple of post classic Dauntlesses and one post classic Outrage. We didn't really see any 13s or 15s in the harbor, but that water is a little large for the smaller Whalers. I did see quite a few 13s on trailers around town. I imagine if we had ventured further up the rivers and creeks we would have seen the small Whalers. The engine choices, other than the newer Whalers which still had their Mercury engines, were about like what were prevalent on the other brands of boats I saw. Quite a few Yamahas with most of the balance being E-tecs. Suzuki seems to be gaining market share in this area. I saw quite a few of those on some 20-25' center console boats. The really big center consoles were almost exclusively powered by Yamaha. We saw several with triple 300s.
