I would like to say my own personal thank you for the search efforts of the USCG, The outcome is terribly sad and your heart goes out to the family and friends of the missing yachtsmen. http://news.uk.msn.com/uk/us-ends-search-for-lost-yacht-crew. BZ USCG Dave Weight |

Yes a real shame and we will never know why they did not manage to deploy their survival raft I thought it was strange no further locator beacons were transmitted during the reporting on Sky News. Tremendous effort by US coast guard |

I have followed the news of the crew of Cheeki Rafiki since last weekend. I had high hopes. Very sad. |

From the photographs at the USA Coast Guard website (linked above) it appears that the sailboat CHEEKI RAFIKI lost its keel. In some other images of the boat, it appeared to be a Beneteau FIRST 40.7. In searching for more information, I found this comment about the 40.7, posted in 2009 and now eerily prescient:

Maybe Beneteau should recover the tagged hull and investigate (Not the same issues in Europe as US on liability but if it was a car or a plane it would be investigated further) The comments in the forum you tagged are not favorable on structural strength |
