Every boating lunatic was on the water over the [Memorial Day] weekend. Beaufort Inlet NC was chewed up pretty good.

Doesn't look too bad, but you look to be running too fast for the water conditions and traffic. Who are the lunatics anyway?

Not really I was following a 60 footer in. Water conditions were a moot point .... Binkster I'm 69 years old come on guy

Tom, how many hours did you run your original Optimax? I assume you have repowered by now.
Flow ice has been gone for 3 weeks now so boating in northern Michigan was a little cooler than it looks down south.

Getting ready to repower in June this Opti has 5100 hours on it. This was the last trip for the old girl been a great motor .... sold to another happy boater. Going with another Opti I looked at them all kept coming back to the Opti.

5100 Hours on your Optimax.
Tough to beat that figure. May we all get those type of hours and usage on whatever outboard brand we may have.
Makes sense to repower with what has worked for you

Not criticising Con, I usually run as fast as possible myself. I noticed in your video you passed a couple of boats that were just plugging along barely on plane like they were tied to a tree. LOL, Why not, you gave them plenty of room. BTW, I haven't been 69 for 6 years, but why slow down, except I stay off the water on summer holidays. Its a good time to stay home and watch a ballgame on TV, or work on my boats.

Not to worry Binkster ...... this is one place you have to go with the flow in the main channel if you don't you can get run down. I don't normally do holidays but the weather was good as was the fishing.

Re the 5,100-hours:
Most remarkable to me is that Tom has endured 5,100-hours on the water in that same time, and probably more than that on some other boats.
Also, imagine if you'd been running a four-stroke outboard--if you changed the oil every 100-hours (as recommended) there would have been 51 oil changes!

Tom-kudos on those high hours! Our Ventura has placed 806 engine hours on the 225 Verado thus far.
On a local fishing note: This past Sunday I have a new personal best striper....51" and 55 pounds! Trolled off Island Beach, on a plug on mono, and released unharmed.
PS-I was solo, which made the catch very interesting.

I shouldn't butt in here, but do folks actually use kill switches on that kind of a boat? Where can he go? I always used one when driving my race boat, but there was a real chance of getting thrown out. I don't see hot weather boaters wearing life jackets either, its way too hot.
