Recently the Brunswick corporation announced several changes in its executive ranks and in organization of its various operating units. Of particular interest to Boston Whaler boat enthusiasts and owners, the position of President of the Boat Group at Brunswick has been eliminated, and Andrew Graves, who held that post, will be leaving the company. The departure of Mr. Graves and elimination of his position is said to be done to "facilitate the Company's long-term succession process."

Mark Schwabero, who has been for several years in the position of president of the Mercury Marine operating unit, is being promoted to a new position, with the title of President and Chief Operating Officer of Brunswick. Mr. Schwabero holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial and systems engineering.

Mr. Schwabero will report to Dustin McCoy, who remains as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brunswick.

The current heads of the various boat group operating units who previously reported to the departed Mr. Graves as President of the Boat Group, will now report directly to Mr. Schwabero. This includes Huw Bower, who is president of the Boston Whaler operating unit.

At the Mercury Marine operating unit, John Pfeifer has been promoted to President. Mr. Pfeifer was previously in the position of Vice President of Global Operations for the Mercury Marine operating unit. Mr. Pfeifer holds bachelor degrees in economics and Japanese language and culture. Mr. Pfeifer will report to Mr. Schwabero.

The other Brunswick operating units involving Fitness, Bowling, and Billiards, will also report to Mr. Schwabero.

Brunswick also recently released its results for the first quarter of 2104. The Marine Engine segment reported sales down three percent to $505.1-million. Operating earnings declined to $61.7-million from $71.5-million, a 14-percent reduction.

In the boat segment, sales declined by two percent to $282.8-milion, but operating income increased nicely to $8.4-million from $2.4-million. All comparisons are to the same quarter of 2013.
