I have been looking for a reasonable priced 13 to 15 foot Whaler since I sold my 18 Dauntless. In the past year, at least three 2001 13 footers with 40 hp motors have been advertised with a price between $2500 to 3000. The pics looked like they were in great condition. Strange that a good classic is generally more money.
Were there any issues with the early models of the new design?

I owned a 2004 130 Sport and it was great until it was hit while being trailered and totaled. I replaced it with a 2007 130 which I presently have for sale. I am replacing it with a 1988 15 SS which I am restoring. Both 13 ft. boats preformed well with their 40 HP 4st. I had no issues at all except for tight steering which was only on one of them. Their value held up very well.

I've had both the classic style and the newer 2001 style 13. I never experienced and significant problems with the newer design. But, the newer one weighs in at double the weight of the classic. The newer one has a more comfortable ride, I acknowledge, but fuel efficiency (even with a 4-strokeon the newer model) is lower than my 2-stroke 1981 Johnson weighing in at about 120 lbs). Overall, I like the looks of the newer hulls, but I prefer the classic. It feels more stable and nimble.
Here in the Midwest, the classic 13's, from the late 1960's to the late 1980's are selling (poor to nice condition) from $3,000 to almost $7,000.

wow! where are you? I just bought a 1993 13' with a 40hp about a month ago. I bought it from my dad, and we figured that market value was about $3500 to $4000 so he gave it to me for $2K. I'm in RI.
A quick search on craigslist for my area shows prices starting at $3500 for older 13 footers and going up over $8000 for newer versions.

You were looking at scam adds.No 2001 130 sport will sell for 2500-3000. It does command 6K +++ price tag.
Its a great hull that was produced from 2000-2008 and is way better than classic 13 sport IMHO.

I now recall seeing that ad in my Milwaukee area. Definitely an obvious scam....
