Topic: 2014 Mercury 115 Flushing Port Disconnected

posted 06-28-2014 08:16 PM ET (US) I have a 2014 Montauk 190 with the Mercury 115. When I went to flush the motor I found out that the flushing port got disconnected. So now there is just a hole where the threaded connector used to be. Can I still use the boat until I get the connector fixed?

You could always do it the old fashioned way. Go buy a set of muffs for the lower unit pickup and get it flushed.

How did that happen on a new 2014 outboard engine?
Why not reconnect the flushing port?

I am not sure how it happened. I would reconnect. I just do not know exactly how.

For a 2014 boat/motor, I would think the best way to get answers would be the dealer you bought it from.
Have you called them yet?

Yes, I agree with the recommendation from Dennis. A boat and motor from 2014 cannot be more than a few months old. That some basic element of the outboard motor has become disconnected seems very unusual. Rather than attempt to find some way to work around this problem, I would try to remedy the problem.

Has someone already tried to flush it?? The connector is most like behind the housing and need to be re installed. A few years ago something happened(forget exactly what is was) and I blew the connector of my Merc 90 4stroke. I pulled the cowl to gain access and just re installed the connector. Was not difficult.

Perhaps too much water pressure from an attached garden hose caused the internal hose attached to the flush connector to blow off.
I think the suggestion to take off the cowling and perform a close visual inspection of the area around the flushing port might be a good way to assess this problem further. You might find that the flush fitting or hose has just fallen into the interior of the cowling midsection, an area called the pan. You can often find missing parts from the engine in there.

I've had the same problem with the 90 FourStroke on my 2008 17 Montauk.
Basically the rubber port gets pushed into the engine.

The flush port also functions as the water indicator, so if the problem is not corrected, water will be discharged inside the engine cover...which could create some problems.
As johnhenry mentions, you'll have to pull the engine cover to get the port back into place.
The port is a bit tricky. In the past I have pushed a garden hose through the opening and connected it to the port as it sits in the engine. Then I use the garden hose to gently pull it back into place.

Thank you all for the help. I may have ran the water pressure too high I guess. I am at a bad angle with the port in the rear and my boat on a lift. It looks like the new Mercurys have the port on the side. A lot better design. I just missed it by a year I guess.
