Are used counter-rotating gear cases that will fit a 2009 E-TEC 130-HP outboard engine hard to find used in good condition? What are they worth? What years fit? Any guess on the likelihood of finding one or finding someone who would like to trade for a regular lower unit for same? Thanks--Don

Look for a used counter-rotating gear case in areas where offshore boating is popular and many boats have twin engines. To determine what gear cases will fit on a particular E-TEC engine, use the resource at SHOP.EVINRUDE.COM to look up the appropriate part numbers. The probability of finding another person who wants to trade a standard gear case for a counter rotating gear case is probably low.

What is the shaft length of the 130 E-TEC? I think that the 25 inch 130 E-TEC uses the Offshore V6 gear case (not particularly designed for the E-TEC and if that is the case then you may be able to find a used counter rotating Offshore V6 gear case to use on the E-TEC.

Its likely a 25 inch, its on a 25 Guardian. Its not possible to change out gears in the drive to reverse things? I guess if everything runs "backwards" the gears would not be "beveled" the same way so likely not possible.

When you say gear case are you talking about the housing or the assembly including gears? I'm assuming you are looking for an assembly.
Is your gear case housing damaged or is it the gears, bushings/bearings or both? If your gear case housing is in good condition the cost of a new gear set and any needed accessory parts from BRP should be much less than the cost of an entire replacement gear case assembly.
It may be possible to buy a used gear set in good condition. It is not uncommon for assemblies to be replaced by insurance after grounding damage or damage from striking an underwater obstruction.
Perhaps your worst case scenario would be to replace the counter rotating gear case assembly with a right hand assembly. Not the ideal solution but many twin engine outboard powered boats use twin right hand lowers.

Butch, my friend has 2 standard motors and would like to have one counter rotating. My question is, can you change out the internals? Or best to buy a complete counter rotating lower unit?

I'm far from certain, but I believe the rotation can be changed by changing the gear set.
If so, it probably all boils down to the availability of one or the other on the used market. If buying new the gear set would almost certainly be the least expensive option.
