I just ordered a Mills Mooring cover for my 1997 Outrage 20. It came with a cutout for what I assume would be an anchor at the bow. It got me thinking, what kind of anchor would even fit here? Does not look like other anchor chutes that I have seen as it has no rollers or chain stop. Any ideas? It is for something else? I just have a small Danforth anchor that is stored in a factory spot in the anchor locker so not even sure why this would be on here if it is an anchor chute. Seems kind of pointless. Any advice is appreciated!

It looks like the cover you have was designed for a boat with a bow pulpit.

There is an anchor roller/pulpit that is a factory option. Mine does not have it. I was considering adding one to mine, but i think whaler wants $260 for it which is a bit too steep for me! Plus they can cause trailering issues when loading if your trailer isnt set up for a pulpit.

That's what I thought at first too but this mooring cover is made specifically for the [the 1995 to 1999 OUTRAGE 20], that as far as I know never had a pulpit, so the only think I can think of would be for an anchor. Mills is supposed to be the expert on Boston Whaler canvas, so I would assume they got the pattern right. Like I said, though, I just don't see what Boston Whaler put there being functional as an anchor chute. I am wondering if [the opening in the canvas] is for something else. I know [unclear] is factory. Maybe someone with a similar year/model has an idea.

Just saw your response jcush. Your post reminded me I have the sales book from 1997 and it does list an anchor roller as an available option. Guess the chute was standard even though I don't really see the point without the roller. The same book has a picture of a 24 OUTRAGE that has a Danforth anchor resting in this spot but I can't tell if it has a roller or not. Might check the parts manual. I wonder if this is just a "bolt on" or if something else needs to be changed. A stainless Danforth would look nice up there! Not sure I want to shell out that kind of [money].

I have the same boat with what I think is the factory anchor roller. Although I do not put an anchor out there, it would hold a Dansforth anchor and keep it far enough out to avoid the flukes from touching the gelcoat of the bow.
From looking at yours I would guess it would be difficult to hold an anchor there without risking some damage to your gelcoat or rubrail

Thanks Sterling that is exactly what I was looking for. Kind of wondering why Mills didn't have that opening as optional. I have to send it back anyway for a couple of adjustments. I think I am going to ask if they can just sew a patch of Sunbrella to cover up[ that hole since I don't need it.

ASIDE: I love the OUTRAGE 20 from that era. It is a great boat.
Sterling--you should move that radio antenna.

I'd also like opinions on antenna location. I'll be installing a radio on my current boat (04 Outrage/Nantucket 190) soon, and not sure what to do with the antenna. Previous boat (96 Outrage 17) had the 8' antenna on a ratcheted rail-mount on the grab rail next to the windshield. It worked well, but was quite inconvenient when putting on the console cover. The antenna needed to be lowered and slipped through a hole in the cover before being dropped over the console (not sure how to post pics in the body of the post). Anyway, planing on doing the same with the new antenna, but going to use a 4' antenna. Other suggestions?
As an alternative, I might just get a handheld VHF, and be free of antenna placement worries!
