How do you keep the cover from the front hatch from blowing out while trailering a Boston Whaler 13-footer?

Put an eyelet in the locker and bottom of the cover then secure a bungee cord.

Secure it with a line. When I bought my SPORT 15 the front hatch cover was home made. The original had been lost. I think this happens fairly often.

Wow, this has never even occurred to me. I have towed my boat on longer highway trips half a dozen times without any [unclear--I think he means without losing the front cockpit locker hatch--jimh]. Maybe the shape of the tow vehicle matters. I have a 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser, so maybe the hatch is in the dead air zone for me.

Happened to me when I was a teenager trailer my 13 home from day fishing trip to Loxahachee in Everglades. I think I might have left the bow line secured and under the edge of the cover, which allowed air to get under and 'pop' the cover up and off. So one helpful hint is always make sure cover is 100% seated.

I've had 4 13 foot Whalers, and all had eyelets in the locker and cover connected by a tight small bungee. I never had any trouble with this setup - even at 70 mph on the highway.. I am studying how to turn the locker on my present 13 Sport into a locked storage without too much modification....

Thanks all. All wood is off the project for refinishing at the moment. Still pondering how to handle the 44 million spider cracks in the blue gel coat.

Go to WalMart and get adhesive VELCRO patches and put on the hatch and the boat, this will hold it on and no bungee straps to deal with. About $2 or $3 bucks for a package of 3 pairs. I use these to hold down my anchor locker on my Alert 17.

I guess I'm wearing "a belt and suspenders".

I use BOTH, the internal bungee, and 2 Velcro strips. I'm concerned not only while trailoring, but also underway at speed with a good chop.
I stays put.

I put stainless steel hinges on mine, mounted to the front of the cover. You can see one of them to the right of the dog in this picture:
