[Seeks] a good source for high quality traction pad material like Raptor or something similar in a 3-foot by 10-foot piece for a project. I just cant find anything reasonable that I can customize.

I use a material called Hydroturf on my SUPs. It's available by the sheet, and in numerous colors and textures. I like the cut groove style. The peel and stick self adhesive is very good, but you only get one chance to apply it right. It is really sticky and hard to remove once applied. That said, there are some simple techniques to making a clean application and getting it where you want it.

Very cool, hollow wood, foam/glass or?? I buy the stuff in sheets and hand cut to match boards rather than buy the pre-cut deck pads.

Here is one that I did several years ago. The board looks huge by today's standards.

beautiful board Andy, I built a Kaholo 14 from CLC(plans and cnc cut ribs) then used that one as a model for a carbon fiber skinned one with a few mods(reverse bow, thnner body). We will see how it turns out!
here are a few pics of the woodie and the CF build.

Nice work on both boards Powergroove. I'd love to learn your technique for the carbon fiber skin.

I used the woodie as a mold, wrapped it in wax paper and laid CF right over the top(actually the bottom). Built up enough layers until it was structurally rigid,(about 3) then added the ribs and stringers. Once I get the fin box in and top on I will sand and fill until I have the smoothness Im looking for then wrap the board in a final CF skin and vacuum bag that last layer on, bottom skin first, then top skin.
very unscientific I know, but it has worked for several projects.
Andy et al, I need expertise on building CF tubes for a paddle. I can do it, but it aint pretty...
on a side note, you can buy "remnants of CF pretty cheap on EBAY. I used these remnants for the inner skin and structural element, the final layer will be one piece of CF. Also went cheap on the ribs and stringers and used Luan from Home Depot. Its cheap, readily available, and light. Once I put a cover coat of epoxy on it, it should really last the life of the board, whatever that might be with 3 boys playing on it all the time.
Epoxy resin is the real cost of this project, probably a gallon and a half.
Somehow this does apply to Whalers, surely there is something you've always wanted to build out of CF for your Whaler(?)

Powergroove, you have mad skills, I'm impressed. All of my paddles have been wood or wood composite, so I don't have any experience with carbon fiber paddle shafts. Feel free to email me to continue this discussion.
