I have a 1972 Cohasset that I bought as a project boat, but have not been able to find the time to get her to where she needs to be. These pics [URL below] are pretty accurate, but I will get some more recent one's. The fuel tank is gone, as it was about shot. The RPS has been removed and the legs are not cracked. We replaced the hubs, tires, and made it a bunk trailer a few years ago. The Bimini top needs to be replaced, but the frame is ok.

I figured this would be the place to get an idea of what it would be worth. The tires have been sitting for a few years, and have only about 70 miles on them; but they probably would need to be replaced if traveling a long distance.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks--David

I guess I am a little lost. You bought the boat, got it...but are you looking for a value as it sits now because you want to see if you paid fair market value, or because you are looking to resell it? Or, by your comment of “What it would be worth” are you looking for the value of it after a restoration? However, I assume you are looking for a value as it sits.

As it sits now. The boat has a fair market selling value of about $1500 - $2000 so long as you still have the RPS, legs, seat-back and hardware. Less if that is missing. That price also assumes the motor is basically valued for "parts" value. No one looking at the boat will value that motor as an asset. All-in-all, you might be able to stretch it to $2500 with "the right buyer" but not much beyond that in my opinion.

What is it worth restored? That depends on what you are willing to put into it. That said though, no matter how nice you make it, the Cohasset’s do not bring top dollar. You would want to convert it to a Montauk with true OEM parts to get the most value. Even then, the non smirked hull limits it’s potential resale.

I was looking to sell it. Everything is there, and the trailer has been redone. I have the rps. It is just like pictured, I will try to get some more pics. The RPS was remove (stored inside). That is pretty much all that has been done to it since I bought it. My Dad got sick, and that pretty much put this on the back burner.

Cohassets don't get that premium "mahogany money" for museum quality restorations in their age range. They also sit below the "smirked" Montauk prices. But I tell you what, I wouldn't trade my 72 Cohasset for either. The up top storage and small footprint of the console is unique and hard to beat. I would trade for a 170 though! Jeff's price is right. I would say $2k max "as is" because of hull condition and the parts motor. Anywhere from $3k cleaned up and turnkey (running and ready) to $5k with wood restored and enough glass work to be "attention getting." You are pricing against jon boats that sink when you forget a plug and old ugly bass boats that look like Chevy Monzas on the water (sorry Detroit folks). "Just say no" to astroturf people! Turnkey is much better than a hull and a parts motor, which is like trying to sell a to-do list. Ready to fish beats a project any day. A turnkey 13 Whaler can be $2k if a little rough. Good luck with everything!
