Twenty years ago today, I took delivery of my new 1995 Outrage 21. It had a Yamaha 200 TXRT (2-stroke). Electronics were a Lowrance LMS-1000, President model Uniden VHF and Furuno FCV-582 (CRT sounder). Transducer was a transom-mount. I had the stern seat and side combing bolsters. I ordered it with Fishing package #2 which included the leaning post, bait tank and tackle trays. Opted in for the freshwater shower, opted out on power steering. With trailer, cover and everything, including the unwanted option of sales tax, I think the total was about $43k. At that time, that was almost double the cost of other 21 footers.

I don't know much about Whalers today. Reebok had the company at the time of my purchase and I think the traditional Whaler quality was intact and in place for my model year. Today, I can attest to the quality aspect. I've had virtually no trouble through all of these years. I have changed the leaning post and bait tank. Repowered last March to a Yamaha 4-stroke 200XB. Upgraded the Lowrance to a Northstar 952 WAAS and then again to a Simrad NSS7 (not evo2). The President and Furuno remain in place. That Furuno has withstood 4000-5000 hours of pounding!

Looking back, I relish the decision to spend the extra money on Whaler and everything it stood for. People remark at how new-looking the boat is and cannot believe it is 20 years old. This boat will probably outlast me.

Future plans include replacing the Igloo Marine 72 cooler (seat) in front of the center console with a Yeti Tundra 75. At the base, the Tundra and Igloo are the same width so the black plastic guides in the floor will fit the Yeti but I will not be able to use the bunjee straps that come out of the floor guides. I'll need to use the Yeti tie-down kit.

When the Furuno goes, I'll get Simrad's BB-3 sounder and get a NSS9 Evo2 to display it. With the NSS7 and NSS9, I'll be able to display what I need to. I'm leaning towards the Airmar pocket-mount Chirp 599 L/H. It is about 14" long but looks like it will fit nicely as the rounded bottom of the hull ia actually quite flat near the stern.

As long as you continue to show pride, dedication and happiness your boat will always look no more then a few years old. Its when some lose the will and the pride starts to slip away the boat takes a hit. I tip my hat to the ones that find that extra gear to keep their boats looking fantastic. It is hard work but its only work. If the answer is I have no more time left, actually its just extra time that's required.

Yes boat looks very sharp! and nice to see you have kept her in such good condition since day one. I know a person that had that same model and he was really impressed with its performance. I wish Boston Whaler would have made it in the desert tan. The white looks good don't get me wrong but I think the transition would have been softer more natural appearance for the company. The engine is a thing of beauty. If I could re-power that would be the one. I just have no need to do so as the older yamaha is running like a champ.

The Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 21 model of that era is a great boat. I really like the lines and the layout. I think the hull is the same hull as used with the 21 WALKAROUND.

Jim, I think you're correct on the 21 Walkaround / Outrage hull. msirof, I'm debating that motor for my 19' Outrage, how are your performance stats with the inline 4 200HP Yamaha?

Mkelly, I was out recently and at 5500RPM, I was going 38kts (43.7mph). At 4400RPM, 28-29kts (32-33MPH), I was at 3.5-3.7MPG. I was riding the gullies of 5-8ft swell at 12seconds otherwise it was no wind chop. Going up and down made it hard to keep a constant speed. At 3800-3900RPM, depending on the load, I'm doing 22-24Kts and getting 4.3-4.7MPG. For pure fuel economy, 3900RPM is the sweet spot.
