I found a place near me that has Sappele (sp?) Mahogany in 5/4" x 12" for $8/board foot.

I know there's a big difference in Mahoganys but that seems like a very good price, especially for 5/4".

From what I can gather, the rest of the wood used in a standard 13' interor (for my 1965) is standard 1". The 5/4" is used for the seating.

I buy 5/4" Sapele mahogany from Triton Lumber in Homosassa Fl. for just under $5.00 a board ft. un planed and plane it myself. I can plane it smooth and it will be about 1 1/16" thick thick, which it the thickness of a Whaler thwart seat. Since Sapele is alot harder and stronger than the original Phillipine mahogany that Whaler used, even if you planed the Sapele seats to 1" they will be stronger than original. The rest of the woodwork should be planed to 3/4"
