The Evinrude 74-degree V6 E-TEC engine has been recognized at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) with a 2015 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show Innovation Award in the category of OUTBOARD ENGINES. The E-TEC G2 engine was the only outboard engine given this award. |

By the by, Boston Whaler was also given an innovation award in the category DECK BOATS. I find this rather amazing, but the 320 VANTAGE was recognized for innovation in that category. There was a time when the words "deck boat" and "Boston Whaler" would not be mentioned in the same sentence. |

Maybe it's the Harris Kayot influence. |

Deck boat, Ha! Funny...When I was on the 320 Vantage at the show I thought to myself. "Man the freeboard is really low for a boat of this size." As far as dual consoles go, Grady White's Freedom line was hands down the better boat over all the Whaler Vantage models. Better layout's for both fishing and family, lots more freeboard and more substantial hulls that would handle big water. In fact, everything on the Gradys just felt more substantial... |

While on the topic of Boatshow news...While I was at the Hatteras Display one of the reps told me that Brunswick has quietly shut down all of the Cabo production in New Bern NC. That was news to me. However, Hatters' new 45's are refit Cabo 45's with full enclosed cockpits and "Hatteras" level cockpit and cabin finishes and appointments. This was the only hull they are keeping in production. |

Jeff--I don't think Brunswick is affiliated with Hatteras or Cabo any more. In 2013 the private equity firm VERSA CAPITAL MANAGEMENT bought Hatteras and Cabo yachts from Brunswick, who had acquired them in c.2001 while "filling in the white space" on their ill-fated boat-builder buying spree. There is a nice Boston Whaler connection: former Boston Whaler CEO John Ward is now the head of Hatteras/Cabo. |

HOOSIER commented on the deck boat Boston Whaler, saying:
quote: That is really quite a good observation. From 2010 until 2013, the president of Boston Whaler was TIMOTHY M. SHEIK. Mr. Sheik came to Boston Whaler from Harris-Kayot, where he was their president. Prior to that he was president and general manager of pontoon and deck boats for (what was then called) the Freshwater Boat Group of Brunswick. I don't know the exact time line for the creation, development, manufacturing, and introduction of the 320 VANTAGE deck boat, but one might imagine that in order for it to be available in very early 2015 its development might have begun during a time when Mr. Sheik was president of Boston Whaler. Thus there very well could have been some Harris-Kayot influence on the 320 VANTAGE. Also on the deck boat theme, the current president of Boston Whaler is HUW BOWER. His background in the Brunswick boat builder brands hierarchy of management was as president of the LOWE boats, where he was said to have been influential in the re-design of Lowe's aluminum deck boats. |
