Hi Folks. I’m new to the forum but not new to Whalers, as I’ve owned one or more for the majority of my adult life. I currently have three: a 1980 SPORT 15, a c.1979 HARPOON 5.2 (under serious restoration), and a 2006 180 DAUNTLESS. About the Dauntless; what the composite material used in the aft storage compartment bulkhead? It is much lighter than KING StarBoard, is hard and smooth on the outside, rough textured on the inside, and definitely a plastic based material as it melts if it gets too hot. Who sells it? I could sure use this stuff for a number of applications. Thanks in advance for any help with this. |

I suggest you contact Boston Whaler customer service and ask them. Boston Whaler uses a very wide variety of materials in their boat construction. When I toured the factory ten years ago they had a display set up that showed samples of all the materials used in laminating a hull. There were more than 30 different types shown and used. See |

Is is the part listed as #9 (FWD. CTR. CLEAT) in this diagram? http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/Company94/ _56_10212010002173.pdf If so, it is listed as "CLEAT HDPE BW-00 SUNLOUNGE SEAFOAM" here: http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/Company94/ _56_10212010002176.pdf Starboard is a brand name of HDPE but they may use another one... For reference, all the parts diagrams for models back to 1998 can be found here: http://www.bostonwhaler.com/page.aspx/pageid/34791/page.aspx |
