I [plan] to replace some tarps I used to cover my 1965 Nauset 16 with an off-the-shelf boat cover. After purchasing a couple from the Bass Pro Shop--one didn't fit, one had gotten terrible review--I am turning to my fellow Whaler enthusiasts. Can anyone recommend a brand and size that would fit, be durable, be good for winter, and good for trailering? I have both the center console and rails, and that seems to be problem for the covers I have gotten so far.
I don't want to use the custom morring cover. I live in New York, and I need to keep off snow and ice. Also, I would like a cover that would be good for the road when trailering it. Thanks.

What you are looking for does not really exist and no matter what, there are no "Cheap" or "Off-the-shelf"cover solutions that work well, nor for a long period of time.
A well made "snap to the hull" custom mooring cover can also be used for trailering and light winter use. Go to a local shop and tell them what you want to make and they should be able to help you.
For heavy snows there is nothing other than tented shrink wrap, or a snow over with internal wood supports that would work and those do not work for trailering.

A regular cover simply doesn't have enough slope for the snow to slide off. A $40 heavy-duty tarp with a wooden A-frame is perfect for winter covering, but obviously can't be trailered.
