How do you deal with the new [plastic fuel tank] caps that don't vent ?

So far, no worries. There has to be some form of venting going on, because my sons will run dry their 6-gallon Teleflex tank in the flat boat, and it never shows a sign of a vacuum, nor shows any kind of pressure release when it sits for a while and I open the cap. I admit it was a bit strange at first, but it seems to work fine.

I replace [the tank caps that come with the new plastic fuel tanks] with a vented cap. [Vented fuel tank caps are] still sold; they must be popular judging by the almost empty hang rack.

My new non-vented has serious pressure build up and release when opened. The tank is scary to look at when left in the sun for an hour or two. I'm looking for that vented cap or I am going to drill a small hole in the top of the non-vented one, this is crazy scary.

The new caps are a BIG change. In my limited research, the new caps have a built-in valve and don't vent until the pressure builds to 4-PSI. The tank will expand significantly prior to reaching the venting pressure. While I understand the rationale, I think the design of the Moeller on-deck portable caps is questionable.

The West Marine 6 gallon tank I purchased had the small one way valve exposed on the inside of the cap. I drilled a very small hole in the valve which took car of the problem.

They vent but it must be done manually. Just push the little button in the center of the cap down until the excess pressure is released.
