Saw something very neat today, I went to Bass Pro and they carry the MAKO-brand boats. In the MAKO model flats boat someone welded up a configuration that held a large Igloo cooler with a back rest with rod holders. The height of the welded box (out of pipe) was only about 22-inches--the correct height for the cooler to fit inside with top the cushion exposed. I could also see were the back rest could be welded to work as the original Boston Whaler seat did. The back rest could then be move forward or backwards depending how you wanted to sit. At the end of the day you just lift the cooler out and you would be done. This would make for easy cleaning and liight weight.

It might be a new trend. I saw a new about-20-foot flats boat the other day--the brand was new to me--that had a similar arrangement as a seat in front of the center console. The center console was also built of 2-inch polished aluminum pipe, but the top portion of the console was a fiberglass box that housed the steering wheel, controls, gauges, and etc. Also, [the boat] had an aluminum framed reversible pilot seat similar to the one I built for my 15 footer. A really cool looking rig.

I too have seen those MAKO cooler seats, and I think they are a nice version of a helm seat with a cooler option. If I ever buy another Outrage with pedestal seats I will replace them with a similar setup, if I cannot buy one direct from MAKO.
