What times during the year are the best to buy new engines? Thanks--Joe

Many brands seem to have deals at the same time every year - early to mid fall is good for Yamaha, for example.

I can only speak about my own personal experience with Yamaha. I watched their promotion behavior for several years before repowering my 1995 Outrage 21 with a Yamaha F200 XB. They typically have two promotions. One in the late Summer/Fall and one in the boat-show-season. Their fall promotion consists of offering three extra years of warranty to make a total of six years. Their boat-show promotion (Jan-March) has a trade-off of either an additional three years of warranty for a total of six years, or cash discount off the price of the engine. The cash discount varies by horsepower. I personally went for the cash discount when I did my own repower. My past experience with Yamahas was that nothing went wrong with the engine until 10 to 15-years. That was after the three years or six years. So I took the cash discount which had an immediate benefit.

Promotions offering discounts or added warranty or bundled accessories when purchasing a new outboard engine are often best around December to April.

Back in May when I visited my dealer (Ft Lauderdale Fla) to look at the new evinrudes, the owner told me to wait for the boat show in Feb for purchasing a new engine, they told me they usually give an extended warr[anty] with the best price and even finance if needed.
