Hi All,

We're looking for a 15' or 17' hull (preferably with trailer) to serve as the chase boat for our Community Youth Sailing program. We are not looking for a boat in great condition, but rather a servicable hull that may be in need of some tlc or repairs. If someone is interested in possibly donating a boat, our organization is 501(c3), so it would be fully tax deductable. However, we do have some money available to purchase the right boat if needed.

I would prefer to find something in the Great Lakes / Upper Midwest area, and any leads provided would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to our organization's web site:

The e-mail in my profile is the best way to get in touch with me.

Thanks!

-Pat

Just a thought but have you contacted your state governement? I know NJ generally has a few for sale...maybe they'd be willing to "donate one"...it won't be pretty...the ones I've seen were pretty well stripped, but servicable...

On the other side of that, you might also look into what banks give boating loans...since your a charity, maybe they'd be willing to "donate" a repo...you never know...

Just a few suggestions...

Good luck!

Dave

very worthwhile endevor:0 Nice site...I'd say dave has a good idea....also check with soem marina's that have taken p[osition of boats for non-payment of slips...all marina's have these, and may want to donate that way...after a while, they get the ownership for abandoned boats and trailers and a lot of them just need a bit of work to get them up and running....Good Luck, henry

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

We've narrowed down our requirement to a 15' or 17' foot Boston Whaler, and there just aren't alot of them in this neck of the woods in the first place. These hulls aren't really of the "repo" type, as banks generally don't want to loan money to buy them in the first place (as we've all seen in the numerous discussions of NADA vs. market...). Given the ease of trailerability, there aren't any sitting around any marinas due to lack of fees either. However, if someone knows of one sitting in a backyard, barn, or garage, that might be a different story:-)

As I said above, we aren't necessarily looking for a donation, as we do have some money available to purchase the right boat.

I have an old 17 (mid 70s?) montauk in Milwaukee. A early 90's - 90 hp mariner that I bought from guy who worked for the mercury factory in Fond Du Lac and rebuilt it top to bottom. Its got some battle scars but very usable. Trailer included. $5000. I can get pictures if you can 1) get the money and 2) drive to Milwaukee. I've enjoyed the boat for years, only selling because I just built up a 19 footer as the 17 is a little light to be out on Lake Michigan.

thanks
dan
