Been lurking a while before registering and have been keeping an eye out for an outrage recently. Thanks for all the great info!

I'm hoping someone can help me out a little in terms of models and market prices. I took at look at these two recently and really like the layout/look of the '89-- very spacy, teak, etc. The boat didn't appear to need major work, but needed a bottom paint, screw tightening, major wash (a lot of mold), replace cooler seat, and wax. The engine was a '89 yamaha v4 135hp (2 stroke), which looked clean, started, and reportedly has fairly low hours.

The other was a 97 17', with a deeper hull and assume it would ride the chop a bit better. The hull was in great shape and had a very clean honda 90hp 4 stroke. It did have a little corrosion on one side of the engine cover from what appeared to be a rub mark. Besides that, it really looked great.

Quesitons:
1) any specific compare/contrasts between the two models?
2) what would be a reasonable price range for the older '89 given the condition?
3) " for the '97 "?

thanks in advance!

90 is too small for the 17

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I have had both and enjoyed each of them. My favorite is the 17 Outrage as it has a lot of storage, high freeboard, V hull and rear seating. The accutrac hull offers a very nice dry ride. A 115 hp outboard would be better, unless you are mainly fishing and not taking a lot of passengers.

The 18 Outrage offers a lot of cockpit room and is light weight for trailering. It does well with 115-150 hp and is also a good ride in chop and stable in following seas. I had 150 hp on both whalers and they both hit high 40's, close to 50 in calm conditions. I would look at condition, price and how well maintained. You should try to water test both and see for yourself which one you prefer.

Not to cloud the water any further but don't rule out the 16 Dauntless. It's a nice package with a dry ride, decent amount of room, rear seating and does very well with only 90 hp. Good luck with your search, you have picked 2 of the best whalers made! Brian

This is really the wrong place to ask that Deepwater, the question is about 17 and 18 Outrages. No Montauk mentioned. That said, the 90 is small for the 17 Outrage II. I know a lot of them were sold with the 115 and the few owners I've taked to who have this package like it. Mine has a 135 and power to spare. It seems like a 90 might struggle with a full load (56 gallons of fuel and four adults).

Thanks to all for the information... I'm going to go with the classic. Now it's just a matter of finding the right one ;)

Thanks again!
