My friend has a 2001 Yamaha 200 HPDI (25") with only 144 hours on it. The dealer (stealer) quoted him $2000 to clean the fuel injection (if true at all). He's an 'old school' OMC mechanic and wants no part of the motor any more. He's considering selling it as complete/repairable or parting it out if he has the powerhead (fine condition) sold first. Complete he's looking for $3500, or $2500 for the powerhead (with trimmings), $1000 for lower unit and $500 for pt&t. Let me know if you're interested. We're in the NE Pa. (18428) / Narrowsburg, NY (12764) area. Thanks. Steve

I have heard differing opinions from mechanics regarding the treatment of fouled injectors. Some say they can be cleaned; others say they cannot and must be replaced. I don't know. But I do know, if they have to be replaced, they are about $300 a pop. So needing 6 makes $1,800 just for parts. So $2K to fix fuel injection problems via the replacement of injectors seems about right. I would dig a little deeper before I agreed to replace all the injectors, or relied on some unknown mechanic. |

P.S. The engine does not sound like a candidate for parts. With only 144 hours, it's practically new. That's only 2 good seasons of use. |

They wanted to send the parts out to be cleaned. They said the Yamaha service rep. was there and made the diagnosis and suggested that repair. My friend's loss will be someone's gain. |
