I saw a craigs list add for this Whaler yesterday. It includes an engine and trailer. The asking price is $5,000. The boat is located in Destin, FL. There were a few photos available on the dealer's web site and the boat looks fairly original. The wood looks to be in very bad condition but it may be salvageable.

I will be in Destin the first week of December and intend to look at the boat. I may even buy it but probably not as I seem to barely have the time to look after my Dauntless. If anyone is interested I will be happy to take a few pictures and get the details on this boat assuming it remains on the market.

If anyone has personal knowledge of this boat I'd appreciate hearing it.

I have tried to buy this boat numerous times from the dealer. My last offer was $4500 (sight unseen). I wanted it for the hull only. I have since found a project worthy of a restore. If you can get it for $4000 or less it is worth it. The motor and the trailer are trash. Good luck to whomever goes for it.

Dawg,

Thanks for the information. I really don't need another boat but maybe I'll be tempted if it looks to be something I can handle with zero fiberglass skills and very minimal wood working skills. The boat looked to be fairly complete with line lockers (?) in the bow. The helm looked complete but every piece of metal looked to be badly pitted. Are NOS parts for these old boats available? Looks like it has lived in Florida sunshine it's whole life with no cover.

I wonder what would be the ideal engine for a repower. I would guess a 150 - 200 HP two stroke, maybe an E-Tec.

Suggestions anyone?

This is to close the loop on this boat. I looked the boat over carefully and cannot recommend it. Details of it's condition can be found on the GAM under Outrage V-20.
