I am looking for a used leaning post to put in my 17 foot Montauk. OEM is first choice but I will take a look at other models as well.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
I don't think a leaning post in a Montauk with a molded floor will have the holding power they do in the Outrages and other Whalers with floor panels that can be removed. Sure there is wood backing under the floor of the Montauk, but I think it will be suceptible to pulling loose. At least with the removable floor panels in the Outrages you could put extra backing or plates under the floor to attach to. the narrowness of the legs and the heighth of the leaning post will tend to put a lot of leaverage on the leaning post.

I think I would put some risers under the Z legs of your RPS and have the double duty you'd get from that.

I would check out either craig's list or boat trader.
I installed a med. high leaning post in a 17 Montauk.
Be sure to use a good base that spreads out the mounting area, many screws & 5200.

Hi Pat,

I will certainly look into what you said there. I was thinking it might be possible to make a base out of starboard that would sit on the floor and distribute the load similar to the RPS.

Will let you know if I can come up with something otherwise I suppose the RPS will have to do.

I have one from a 22 whaler OEM that I will consider good to fair shape no holes and needs a little cleaning up. I have the ability to pack it up safely and get pretty reasonable shipping. Located on Long Island. Picture available. Asking $295.00

RB89BW,

Thanks for the offer but I have found a leaning post that I can trade my RPS for.

Take care,

Matt

RB89BW,

Do you still have that leaning post?
