I'm considering selling my 2008 montauk & wanted to get some idea on it's value. NADA has it at 16000 but that seems way off. It has a fishing package, live well, bimini, swim platform,& full cover. Great shape with about 150 hours. Thanks for the help.

A local dealer in Mn has one the same model, 2010 with everything you mentioned plus a 8hp kicker motor in addition on sale for 19,995. The boat is brand new with zero hours. Based on that it would be difficult to get excited about one with three seasons on it for 16k. |

I'd be interested in that dealers name as well. I doubt a well optioned new Montauk 170 will leave the dealer for anywhere near $19K.$16k for your boat is very low. Evene if teh boat had no options, I'd start at around $22k and work my way down. With many options (sun top, factory installed live well etc) this could go $2-3k more. |

I'd like the name of that dealer too. There are only 2 dealers in MN, one in Orono, and that one doesn't have appear to have any boats at all. They sold one for $23,247 with 60 HP Merc, according to their website. Nisswa Marine in northern MN has a 170 with a 90 HP Merc for $25,900. I think $19,995 is little more than smoke.Sound like 4es has a nice boat there, certainly worth more than $16K. |

Dennis. I was misunderstood my friend who has ordered it. As it turns out the kicker is his own Yamaha that the dealer is going to setup after the boat arrives. The boat is a base model. I was mistaken. I certainly do not want to nix his deal. The boat is a factory order. Apologies...human. |

Thanks everyone for the help. I'm thinking about getting a bigger boat to go off shore more comfortably in, I would love a 220 outrage but $$$. I was ready to drive to Mn and pick up a new one for $19950 though. |

Base model for 20K? Factory order? I can see a factory order, without an engine, for 20K. Otherwise base model starts at 25.9K according to www.whaler.com. |

I would not be overly concerned about NADA. But it depends on how badly you want to sell. It is a buyers market, regardless of what we think of our beloved Whalers. An 08 may only have a short time left on the engine warranty. With a used boat, if a buyer wants to finance it, they may not get the rate or term that a dealer may be able to get for them on a new boat. They may be able to get a lower, (but longer)payment book on a new boat.Good luck on a sale. |

That engine should have an extended warranty, so that should not be an issue. |

My 2006 Mercury FourStroke factory warranty expires in 2011. I would hope a 2008 model year Mercury FourStroke factory warranty would not expire until 2013. Or maybe I just got a great deal? |

I have a 2008 170 Montauk with the 90 FourStroke engine. I purchased it in July 2008. The engine came with a 3 year warranty. Mercury sent me an offer to extend the warranty an additional 2 years for $700 or so. Later I read that MERC offered 5 year warranties on a number of engines in late 2008 and/or early 2009. So I think the length of the warranty will depend on when it was purchased. |
