I have been a Birbarie customer for decades. I won't go down the whole path that lead to the dealership being stripped from them. This is really sad for me. What really bums me out is that I will be leaving for CA on 9/13 and will miss, what is sure to be, a great opportunity. |

Oh how I wish I could go to that. I would be camped outside waiting for them to open. |

If my schedule holds, I plan on attending this sale. I would be more than happy to look for items, if you know what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. If there is something you would like me to look for, email me at the address in my profile and I will follow up with you. Dan |

Mindy Birbarie told me yesterday that she had received many calls about the sale. She said "as far away as New Jersey". Could that be you, Themclos? When I told her it was on the CW website, she was shocked. They were the oldest, family owned Whaler dealer in the nation. Very sad. She has almost nothing for the most popular boats (Montauk and Outrage). She has a lot of canvas, some consoles, and bits and pieces galore. She is organizing it all on her own and sounds a bit overwhelmed. Happy shopping to all who have the opportunity to go. |

Depending on "clearance pricing" I would buy the entire lot if she was too overwhelmed. I just bought a NIB Montauk seat from a dealer that was moving for $360 and it cost me $115 to ship. Those are the deals ya need to find in a place like this. How great would $250 consoles be? |

Well... I'm supposed to get married on the beach here in NJ on the 18th. Wonder if they would let me in the day before (or if my fiancee would mind a postponement) ;-) Dave . |

Dave, You need to set your priorities. I am sure your fiancee would understand. ;) Would anybody from Jersey like to get up in the wee hours of the morning and take a trip with me? Sal? Jon? Dan |

Mindy told me that many people had asked about earlier access to the sale items. She said, in order to be fair to everyone, there would be no early viewings or purchases. I also don't think they will sell the lot as a whole, even though it would be easier. Many of the people inquiring have been Birbarie customers for decades. Birbarie also has a separate, small marina, largely filled with Whalers. I think that these customers are the ones who will be the lucky shoppers. |

Dan, I would be interested in any Newport seats or canvas. I will email or call you in the next couple days. Cheers, |

I looked @ Birbarie's stock. There are lots of cushions for later models (post classics) and many biminis. Some of the items had exposure to the elements and will need anything from cleaning to repair. There are a number of original mahogany and teak pieces for 13's and 15's. There are two larger integrated bait tanks with leaning cushions, one needs repair. There are some new old stock wood pieces. There are 4 pretty nice Montauk teak hatch covers in good condition. There is literally nothing else for mid-80s Montauks and Outrages, or later (early 90's) Outrage 19 or 19 II's. There are some pedestal seats, mix and match, without the bases. There is an odd seat/base from what was likely the port seat on an early 22 Revenge. I saw nothing electrical, no switches, some limited fiberglass hatches (had the left but not the right, etc.) THere are two or three wooden steering consoles for 13's. They need complete restoration. Other than the biminis, the only stainless items were a couple of random rail pieces. I also looked at the 22 Outrage that someone else posted the for sale add on here. The boat needs work- all wood is severely weather beaten, electronics are old, trailer needs some work, the boat is late 80's but the engine is a 200 Johnson that is a 96. Definitely a project. There are a couple of classic 13's, two or three with older power and one with a newer Yamaha 40 4 stroke but the prior owner painted it with a BRUSH. Hope this helps those of you who called her or were planning to travel there. Again, the majority of items will be biminis and cushion for post classic Whalers. They are going to mark the items with prices and are not expecting to haggle with buyers. |

Just remembered a few other things- no bow lighting, a single stern light, model unknown, no battery boxes, cleats, swim steps, console covers. |

Did anyone make it to Birbarie Marine today? I'm looking for feedback as to whether the stock / pricing is incentive enough for my three hour car drive. Thanks! |

Hi--This is Mindy from Birbarie Marine. I feel I should jump in here and say a few things. First---this is in no way--a going out of business sale--we are simply getting rid of Whaler "stuff" I have worked day and night trying to identify and tag all sorts of items. These items belong with you....the whaler owners. Everything is priced under cost and most of this is brand new!! We have loads of cushions, lots of canvas, bow rails, seats, etc. I have had hundreds of calls looking for specific items. As I have said over and over bring measurements, part numbers, etc. I have 20 suntops, eight of which are brand new. I saw someone said we have no console covers--we have plenty of console covers. Genuine Whaler wood--we have lots. Even though everything is well under cost please remember this is Whaler.....very expensive and we always bought at low margins. Cost and list are very close so please dont expect to buy a new suntop for ten dollars. The parts I can not identify are simply because part numbers are missing. I will try to help everyone the best that I can. I hope to see you all tomorrow sept 18 at 9:00. |

Mindy--Thanks for making a bunch of Whaler nuts get up early and pour over your stock of stuff! I found great items for my Newport and prices not to be missed. I will be out installing my new bimini today. Folks--If you know what you need, what it looks like or it's actual dimensions, get in your rig and take a ride over. I am sure you will not be disappointed! If you are not sure what "belongs" on your boat, get out Tom's CD catalog collection and do some research. |

I am glad the suntop worked out....and yes I have lots more "stuff" to sell before our showroom turns into winter storage so I hope people do come out Sunday 9-12. I have a brand new bow cushion for a 17 Montauk (new style) and a bow cushion set (3 piece) brand new for the 2008 21 Outrage. Lots of new canvas, plenty of wood, and fiberglass hatches, two used leaning posts, two used consoles, a temptation cooler (new), and plenty more. I have four - brand new- bow rails still in factory wrap but I can not identify them. I also have two sailboats. One is an original Squall-poor condition and the other is the Squall made by the Chestnut Hill Boat Co back in the early sixties. They sold the Squall pattern to Boston Whaler, so the boat looks exactly like Whaler's version. |

I stopped by the shop today enroute to Cape Cod to put away the Montauk for the season. Mindy was very courteous and still has a lot of 1990s era canvas by OEM Great Lakes Boat Top Co. I scored a v-berth cushion for my Conquest. I was intrigued by another bit of history in the shop. Her dad's circa 1936 soap box derby car. He made it to nationals in Ohio. I have a similar boyhood photo of my dad with his soapbox derby car. Whalers and family memories go hand in hand. Thanks for making my day Mindy! |

Mindy is one of the most down-to-earth, available, retail people that I have ever met. As I said early on in the post, a lot of what was available was mid and later 90's stuff, with a few earlier niche items tossed in. I really respected that she stuck to her guns on not selling out stuff early to make it fair for all. |
