We're considering a small boat to leave at our place on the coast. I was thinking a small aluminum skiff or jon boat to transport two adults in a smallish and well protected lagoon. But, an 11 foot Whaler would be my first choice. Preferably a well used one in decent to excellent condition with a 15 HP outboard engine and a galvanized trailer. We have a slip available at our place when we are there but would need a trailer for when we are not in residence.
I would appreciate your opinions on the prices these small Whalers demand.

Prices are as follows. 13's are cheaper. $1500 gets you a WELL used example probably tiller and repainted, etc. $2500 gets you an OK hull, motor & trailer. $3500 gets you a sweet boat. $4500+ gets you a VERY nice example of what a Tender should be like..bristol with newer power.
Mine is a $3500 condition 1987 sport that needs a buffing and interior installed, etc. $2800 as it sits(interior is varnished and pretty)a fresh water 1987 20hp Johnson, very nice galv trailer, $500 Weaver Snap Davits, 1 coat of bottom paint(easily removed if so be)and a mooring cover. $3250 buffed, finished and ready to roll. Tampa Bay area.

An 11 tender is the perfect boat. I have 2. One 1999 like new with Mercury 15 two stroke less than 10 hours, was tender on my former 47 bayliner includes gal trlr. The other, 1999 brand new never used, never in water, no motor but new gal trlr. Both stored inside with covers, both for sale for the right price. Perfect boats.

I have one as well (1979), and currently redoing it. I'm almost finished with all the sanding and the glass work. I have sanded down the transom and raise it one inch. Painting it Fighting Lady Yellow with an Eggshell interior to match my 17 Whaler I did last year.
Did not make as many, perfect fit size for larger boats (used as tenders and life boats).
Bill: What is the right price/pictures/location?

Appreciate the information. I assume your tenders are in Michigan. That's a bit far for me unless the value is extraordinary which I doubt as they remain on the market. :=)
For comparison purposes what are the prices you are asking for the boats?

I think the 11'6" tender is a perfect boat for the purpose it was designed for. It is light, stable, offers good performance with the correct motor, small foot print, easy to trailer, wonderful wood trim, classic Whaler lines, best logo in the industry, unsinkable (have personal proof of that from my earlier whaler days. I used it as a tender and loved to simply goof around with it on the water. It can easily be converted to a sport model as well if one wanted to. I like the extra room with the tiller steering. My wife and I fished along side much larger boats in Puget Sound and thru out the US San Juan Islands and the Candian Gulf Islands. My former 11' sport with 20 HP Johnson, was towed behind my older 32 Bayliner thru conditions that would destroy a lesser boat. Not pround of that, simply a fact.
Compared to the new 11' bath tub, these boats are the best!
The boats are both in Portland OR. shipping them is not that big of a deal (as long as I don't have to pay for it)One is never used with no power, one is slightly used with Mercury 15 2 stroke.
Last price for the slightly used one was $6,450. USD. I just relisted it for $5,950. USD. I would sell the new one for the same price with no power (have the new oar locks however)

Since originally posting this query I've decided an 11 is just perfect for the lagoon but would be to small for the other waters around Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Therefore I'm now looking for a good example of a 13. Our 190 Montauk is great for the waters around the area but is a little largish for the lagoon and is tight on the ramp and in the slips. A 13 is a boat I can leave at the condo for extended periods and use wherever we want in the area.
I'll be posting a new article seeking a 13 but thought I'd put this one to rest. We prefer not to travel more than 450 miles from the Mobile, AL area and closer is better.
