I saw a 1973 Boston Whaler Bass Boat in upstate New York (Wilton) listed on Craigslist. |

Hollywood Fla, 19 ft 1973 Whaler needs lot of work, floor was soft on the right rear, Trailer was in good shape, older 140 Evinrude engine fair condition. The boat can be changed to a lo pro, you have to do work on the hull anyway might as well go all the way. Saw the advertise in Boat trader about a month ago, boat is still there, he was asking $5000, I think you could get it for $3500 with cash... |

Before you hack up a Whaler to make it a Lo-Pro...go for a ride on one first. There are a LOT of reasons they only made them a couple years and sold a handfull to the public. |

Tohsgib: what is wrong with a low pro? is the hull design different for that hull? |

No it is a bottom half of a 19' Banana. It is also a pretty elaborate job to convert, ask Len(an86carrera) and it is kinda stupid to be honest with you. One it is ugly, 2 you lose all your side storage, 3 you lose your freeboard(actually why you own one), and 4 it is wet. Not only running but when fishing. The waves seem to smack against the sides and come rolling into the boat...kinda like a seawall during a storm. Unless you have been on one, live on the gulf where they still make them for some reason, and gotta have it...do your homework first is all I ask. |

I do not think they are ugly. I really like the look... They are wet because water will just roll over the side, they are stabile and do not roll with a wave but just sit there and let the wave come over. The freeboard is that of a 13' or less, but a 13' will move when a wave comes by, a Lo Pro will not. Those are none of the reasons I sold mine. http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/an86carrera/ Low%20Pro%20Transition/ Len |

I was thinking of one for the back country/diving boat in Fla, I really do not care about storage cause anything you leave in a boat either gets stolen or turns to rust, so I never leave anything in the boat. I would like the low free-board so its east to get it and out, as far as being ugly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But thanks for the input. Len: 1st thanks for the pictures, does it not have an under the floor gas tank? And how was your floor inside? The one I have found was soft so I have steered away from it. |

The one in Houston looks like it was an I/O powered Revenge that has converted to a low profile 19 because the box in the rear deck area and how the transom area is molded. |

Yes, it had a built-in tank and the floor was OK. Len |

That was probably an Outrage I/O conversion considering the Console is 1975 OEM style(winged). Sorry Len but that thing is ugly. Only a Mother Baleen Whale would think otherwise ;) I love my Revenge but would not want a Lo-Pro. |
