1971 Boston Whaler 13’ Sport Sourpuss model in very good original condition. This boat was originally delivered to Pilots Knob boats in upstate NY (Pilot Knob, NY) on 4/15/71. The second owner kept the boat in Rutland, VT and I am the third owner. The boat has been strictly used in freshwater and it is very apparent from her condition that she has never seen saltwater.

The hull, both interior and exterior are in very good condition with no crazing or spider cracking with only minor gelcoat repairs to chip/dings, etc. The gelcoat on the hull and interior is original. The boat has never had bottom paint on it. The bow and stern light are original and have recently been re-wired.

The wood is 85% original as I did replace the bow locker cover, instrument panel and console top. The rest of the interior is original. All wood was taken down to bare wood and coated with 8 coats of Epifanes Classic varnish.

The wrap around railing is original and the screw holes have been epoxied and re-tapped to ensure a tight fit of the railing.

The Sourpuss model received a full width console, center steering, wrap around railing and blue “denim” seat cushions. The seat cushions on the boat are even original and in excellent condition. The 1971 model year for the 13’ hull the following changes: modified “smirked” hull design, re-designed motor splashwell, and the Boston Whaler 3-piece rubrail.

All the hardware is original including the steering wheel, bezel, stern/bow lights, bow eye, stern eyes, etc. The boat has the original capacity decal inside the motor splashwell.

The following have been replaced by me: brand new Boston Whaler 3-piece rubrail, 2 new brass drain tubes, new rubber coated galvanized wire rope steering cable, new engine shift/throttle cables, wiring for the bow/stern lights using heat-shrink waterproof connectors, new OMC 6-gallon Duratank (not in pics), and new fuel hose assembly.

I rigged the 1988 Evinrude 30hp short shaft, electric start, outboard this spring. The boat originally had a 40hp Mercury on it and it wasn't worth replacing the coil. The motor is very lightly used (< 100 hours) and a true freshwater water motor. I have the original sales receipt and all manuals for the engine and controls. There is a 10” x 13” prop on the boat now which in my opinion works perfect, but the motor does come with an additional 10” x 15” pitch OMC prop for those desiring more top end speed. The motor looks almost brand new, has the original paint/decals, perfect lower unit w/original decals and runs perfect. I changed the lower unit oil and water pump this year. The motor does come with a factory OMC tachometer that I haven’t installed. I just didn’t want to cut a hole for the tachometer in the new instrument panel.

I am unsure the year of the trailer, but it works just fine and I have replaced the hubs, bearings, tires, wiring harness, light, and bow roller this year. I would tow the trailer anywhere.

So, essentially this boat needs absolutely nothing and I am sure I am forgetting something. The hull has been waxed and absolutely everything has been done to preserve this Sourpuss for another 40 years. It is a great boat. I am relocating due to work and can’t take this Whaler with me. It is the best Sourpuss I have ever seen.
