I have a 2000 Johnson 3 cyl 25 HP motor with tilt and trim. Is currently a 15" shaft set up, but I have all the parts to make it back to a 20". Has all controls, tach, wiring harnesses, cables and gas tank. Compression is 110 across the board. Just used it Tuesday night for an hour with no issues. $1300.

3 cylinder 25hp? do you mean 25hp two cylinder, or a 75hp three cylinder?

The 2000 Johnson 25 HP, 15" shaft with power Trim-n-Tilt was a four stroke with three ccylinders.

It was actually a Suzuki with Johnson colors.

The 2000 Johnson 25, 3-cylinder was a 500cc 2-stroke. The 20 inch trim/tilt model weighed 170 lbs. They also offered a 565cc 35 HP version. They only offered them for about 4 or 5 model years. Without the 5 inch extention, this 25 probably weighs about 160 lbs give or take a couple.

Tom is correct just not in this instance. OMC made a 3cyl 25/35 along side the 2cyl from about 1996-2000 or so. Would be interesting to find out if actually made by OMC or someone like Suzuki. Could it be one of those Belgian models?

Actually, in 2000 OMC made both a two stroke three cylinder and a four stroke three cylinder motor.

The EVINRUDE was the Suzuki made four stroke, while the JOHNSON was the two stroke.

This is ironic as OMC used the Johnson brand for the Suzuki fourstokes after this.

The OMC designed and made 8/9.9/15 HP four strokes were another animal, made in OMC factories in Hong Kong and Belgium.

"In 2000 OMC made both a two stroke three cylinder and a four stroke three cylinder motor." This is true, but not at the 25 or 30 HP level. Those appeared on the scene in 2004 as Johnson badged/painted Suzukis.

I am very interested. Do you have any pictures? Can you crate it for shipping to VA?

Peter -- in 2000 OMC made six different four stroke 25 hp models.

The three cylinder 2000 25 HP, 15" shaft length, electric start and power TNT is Evinrude model E25PL4SSS.

They also made seven different four stroke 30 HP models in 2000.

Interesting. My 2000 Evinrude brochure makes no mention of 25 and 30 HP 4-strokes. There is a gap in the Evinrude offerings between 15 and 40 HP. However, Evinrudes parts website shows parts drawings for them so they must have been offered. Perhaps it was a late offering which did not make 2000 brochure printing. I've never seen one around here.

In any event, this thread is about the sale of a 2000 Johnson, not Evinrude. In 2000 Johnson offered two types of 2-stroke outboards at the 25 HP level -- the 32 cubic inch 2-cylinder and a 30 cubic inch 3-cylinder. The 2-cylinder never came with power trim and tilt. The 3-cylinder version could be had with that option. The 3-cylinder was also oil injected, the 2-cylinder was not. The 3-cylinder was loop charged, used the side draft induction, optical ignition system and the fresh water flush port like you find on the 60 degree loopers. Basically it was like the V6 60 degree looper cut in half.

The 25/30 HP 4-stroke in Johnson trim wasn't publicly offered until 2004 (then BRP controlled) and that seems to be confirmed by the Evinrude parts website.

I'v never seen one either, but 2000 was a tumultuous year for OMC as we all know. Maybe they just didn't have time to include it in the catalogs.

If Suzuki did not make this mysterious three cylinder four stroke, who did?

Suzuki made the 4 strokes, not sure who made the 2 strokes.

Most likely the Evinrude 25/30 4-stroke was Suzuki rebadged product.

The 2000 Johnson 25 3-cylinder that is being offered here has OMC componentry such as the optical ignition and the OMC flush port so it looks like it was made by OMC. Probably made to compete with the 3-cylinder 2-stroke 25/30 HP outboards offered by Yamaha.

No question that the two strokes were OMC products. It is the 25 & 30 HP four strokes that are in question.

It is not as easy as saying that Suzuki made the four strokes. We know that the 8/9.9 and 15 HP four strokes offered by OMC starting in 1996 were in fact OMC designed and produced. They were offered as both Johnson and Evinrude products.

These were replaced by the Suzuki motors in the early 2000s, but I do not know anything about the 25/30 HP four stroke models beyond what is reported here.

There is a three cylinder 2000 Johnson 25 on a 1964 Sport 13 shown on Cetacea page 23:

It looks like a very nice motor. I would expect it to be smoother than the classic two cylinder models.

Every 4 stroke was made by Suzuki except the 8/9.9/15 early engines....later were Suzukis. I would almost guarantee the 25/30 were rebadged Suzukis.
