- We don't know Where you are, except that you like to get up to Charlevoix...someone may know a great retailer near where you live.- $4 - $6K is on the high side - start bargaining. I paid $4,500 for a custom-built tandem-axle all aluminum trailer for my 25 with 15" rims, SS hardware, a full spare, spindle lube hubs and disc brakes on both axles. You should be in the $2,800 - $3,200 range for a 21' boat....and about $1,000 for a good used trailer, if you can find one locally.
If you're "sold" on this boat, you should investigate some storage options in a marina yard and take the time to find a trailer that suits your needs. Again - my opinion is that if you buy a used trailer, you generally get 1) someone else's problem and 2) you get to do some work on the wiring/lighting, and refurbish the axles and perhaps even replace the springs, add some bunk carpet, replace some bolts and hardware, etc...in the end, it may be a better deal to get a boat that already has a trailer, or negotiate the price more aggressively on this boat so you can afford a trailer for it.
In Michigan, it seems that our freshwater environment and seasonal boating means that trailers don't really get swapped until they are TRULY tired and worn out...which could be a very long time. My old 1968 SnowCo trailer is still seeing regular service (now converted to a light-duty utility/dump trailer).
