I bought this engine last year for my 1968 Katama. The previous owner bought this engine new and never installed it and had it in his heated garage for 15 years. It is a Tohatsu 40 hp model DEPGO long shaft electric start and oil injected. It does not have power trim. We had it out last weekend and it does 29 mph with 2 X 200 lb people and no bottom paint. It would be the ultimate engine for a 13' Whaler as it weighs about 165 lbs. It has 51 hours on the hourmeter. I am trying to sell the Katama but a lot of people want a bigger engine. I have had several offers to buy just the boat and trailer so I am offering the motor for sale. It comes with spare prop,Tach, controls ! year old battery and tank. A new Tohatsu 40 would cost well over $ 5000 instaled . $2700 firm I would post photo's if I could but the can be seen on craigslist Boston.

I believe it is a 1997. It is the three cylinder three carberator motor with electric start and oil injection.

Not to say that your engine is not perfect.....But
the market is SOFT, for reference I sold a "like new"
2003 Mercury 75HP WITH PT & T for $ 2900.00.
(The best offer I had in three months)
So you might want to be flexable on your price...
Good luck with the sale.

Your 2003 engine might have 8-9 seasons on it and how many hours? My engine has one season and 51 hours on the hourmeter, And you won't find a new 40 hp engine that weighs 165 pounds for a 13' Whaler.

The 75 HP, had 180 hours on it & zero corrosion, Power Trim & Tilt, gloss black all original paint, etc.....
(IT was BEAUTIFUL BABY!) Only sold it because I wanted more HP......
"Just say'en" You might want to be flexable, on your price.

Russ, the market is worse than soft for sure. At least us Whaler owners have a chance of getting good money for our boats. I may end up putting the 40 Tohatsu on one of my 13 Whalers or putting it in the garage till my old 50 hp dies. I can get 30 mph on my Katama with that 40, I bet it would get close to 40 mph on my 13 Whaler. My brother is moving to the Fort Myers area next month. I wonder if he will let me keep one of my Whalers in his yard?

Thats a good idea, the boating is nice here.
IF you could add PT & T to that engine, that would be the ticket. The West coast of FL, is very shallow, having spent
allot of time on the East Coast.
IF I were selling it, I would include good clear photo's &
focus on the condition...
Good Luck with the sale, or well powered 13'.
