I have spent hours studying the commentary on this site and finally realize that the 190 Nantucket is nearly the exact same boat as the 190 outrage. I've seen mention of the "value" series when some mention the Nantucket. Does that mean that some quality in materials or design was compromised w/ the Nantucket? Also, I am going to see this boat this upcoming weekend: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2005-Boston-Whaler-190-Nantucket-290521 Notice thAt the electronics were removed and a crude fiberglass patch was screwed into place. Is this dash ruined? Any thoughts on how to make it right? Fair price? Thanks!!!! |

Is this the wrong forum for this question? |

The 190 Outrage and Nantucket are the same exact boat. They changed the name From Nantucket to 190 Outrage after 2 years. Made better sense for their marketing. |

Is 19k a fair price for good condition w/ fishing package and 135hp merc 2 stroke? No electronics thought and they screwed a big blank patch onto dash where electronics were. |

Nola, There is really not enough information to judge the value of the Nantucket. Only you can decide the value. I assume the engine is an Optimax. The hours of use should be considered. An engine report via the ECM is also needed as well as a compression test. The dash is not ruined but will require some work to make it look right. What is the overall condition. How about dings, scrapes, cracks and scratches. Are the cushions and the bimini top in pristine condition? These are expensive items to replace. How is the trailer? If the tires are 2005 vintage they should be replaced. Is there a spare? The costs of tires should be factored in. Is there a lot of rust on the springs and brake components? They are also expensive. If the engine checks out well and the overall condition suited me I might start with an offer around $13,000. I would have a price in my head that would be the maximum I would pay for the boat and try to negotiate from a number well below my final position. Generally a seller is willing to sell for well below the advertised price. Good luck to you with this endeavor. Butch |

Thanks.... That strategy suggestion helps a lot. I am now seeing it next weekend. It is an opti w/ 150 hrs. I am going to water trial and then if interested I will have a mechanic run compression tests and diagnostics. Is Water saturated foam a concern? What about ethanol corroded fuel system? |

Nola, I doubt water intrusion will be an issue with a newish boat like the 190 Nantucket. The fuel tank is almost certainly plastic and it should be impervious to ethanol. This is a fairly young boat with very low hours on the engine. If the process gets as far as a compression check and an engine history report the shop can advise you as to the need to replace any fuel lines and the squeeze bulb. If the engine runs well at all RPM during the on-the-water test it is unlikely any on-engine fuel system components have been compromised by ethanol. I believe the Optimax was designed to run on ethanol flavored gasoline. Because the fuel tank is plastic and mounted beneath the console you will likely smell gasoline if you stick your head into the console. This is a normal condition and is not dangerous. Virtually all new Boston Whaler boats with similar layouts will have the smell. Don't let that put you off although you may find it to be a useful negotiating tool. The Nantucket is a fine boat and I came very close to buying one at a Boat Show a few years ago. The deal was right in my eyes but the Admiral disagreed. Butch |

Nola-wondering how this worked out. Did you buy the boat? |

I did not. The boat was in OK shape and had been stripped of electronics. They ruined the dash by screwing in a blank plastic plate to cover holes. They would not do a sea trial which made me nervous. I'm a buyer at a much lower price... Going to wait them out for a while... The boat will need some investment |

I've been thinking about selling my Montauk and getting another whaler with a bit of a smoother ride like an Outrage or Nantucket. I looked at one today, came home and searched this site and found this topic. Oddly enough, I looked at the boat in the link posted by Newtauk1. We didn't go for a sea trial so I'll assume, for now, that mechanically all is as it should be. To my untrained eye it looks like an extremely well maintained boat. It's got a console cover, full cover, bimini, Garmin GPS, etc. According to the tach, the engine has 233 hours. Is 23,900 a reasonable price? Too high, crazy low, I have no idea. NADA guides show a suggested retail of 27k, a low retail of around 14k and an average retail of around 16k. Any ideas of what a reasonable price might be? Many thanks Dave |

Hello Whaler fans. I have a 2005 Nantucket for sale. It is in pristine shape with less than 200 hours. Never been in salt water, has a Yamaha 8hp 4 stroke kicker controlled from the console with a dual engine helm. 135hp Optimax, Bimini top, full cover, VHF radio, Humminbird 97 fishfinder/GPS, Sony stereo, inflatable vests, fishing gear, anchors, and much more. Well worth the $27,000 I'm asking. Located in Colorado. Email me at mdrobniewski@msn.com. |

To daverdla: I tried sending you an e-mail regrding my Nantucket but perhaps the address in your profile is no longer valid, as it did not send. If you're interested, contact me. I had two inquiries and also sent info to Nola. If anyone else is interested, contact me on the email address in my profile, I'll send particulars. In researching prices, I learned that top retail for this boat is $31,500 without the kicker and the extras i'm including. I'm asking $27,000 and will negotiate to compensate for shipping cost. This is a NEW seven year old boat. In my previous post I said it has less than 200 hours. Actually it has 57.9 hrs on the Optimax and around 150 hrs on the Yamaha kicker. don't let this opportunity pass you by. |

Hi Mitch, That email is still valid so I don't know why it didn't go through. Your boat sounds great but Colorado is too far from NJ. Besides, I've got to sell my Montauk first. Dave |

Mitch, Perhaps you should consider posting a new ad for YOUR boat. A person seeking a 190 Nantucket may not be as interested in a question about fair price as they are in a "For Sale" ad. Good luck. Butch |

Bought an 05 Nantucket with 135 opti with under 100 hours in early June for use on Lake Ontario. My impressions on the boat for the last 2 months are as follows. Dry ride, no vibration from t top. Easy to clean, engine is matched nicely to boat. Will be rigging with electronics over winter. I was lucky to find this boat with no electronics at all, no VHF so a completely untouched, unmolested dash. This boat is a nice fit for us now, with a wife, a 5 yr old and a Golden Retriever. Hope you find one and hope you enjoy it as we have. |
