I am thinking of replacing my Honda 130 on my 18' Ventura. A 150 yamaha 4 stroke will be around 14 grand. Does anyone have an idea of what a Etec 150 would run. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with the Etec?

Thanks

JJC

Any reason as why to rule out the new 150hp Honda? It seems there's nothing but positive reviews from the newer (2011+) VTEC engines. Lighter, quieter and more fuel efficient.

My present 130 has less than 200 hundred hours and the block is blown. Very heavy very slow .

I guess that a bad experience is a good reason!

I have a 2012 150 eTec on my BW Revenge 20WT I am trying to sell with 30 hours. The engine is wonderful. It is economical and has great get up (torque?).

I also had an 75 eTec on a BW Montauk that was outstanding as well.

FYI my eTec cost over $15k for the engine, new cables, gauges, etc.

If you are interested in my eTec, holler. It seems know one wants the Revenge. Maybe I'll sell you my eTec and donate the Revenge.

Hi Sal

Sorry to hear you have not sold her yet . A new 150 Yamaha 4 cycle is 14 grand. Mer a little less Honda a little more. You have the perfect platform for trolling and staying out for An overnight. I am still considering options now and still pretty mitf. That an engine with that few hours would have such catastrophic failure while being serviced each year. Is the boat still without trailer? I am in Florida I will spread the word down here for you

Thanks Ventura... Still without a trailer. I could get a new one for $1500 here.

Sorry about your engine, man. FYI I also had a Yamaha F150 on a 190 Nantucket (Outrage), and a Parker 21SE. It is also a great engine. It just makes a nice clunk when you put her in and out of gear. I prefer the eTec but you can not go wrong with either.

I think engines are cheaper down by you. Get your boat rigged and don't look back - life is short.

I bought my ETEC 200 from Custom Marine in Statesboro, GA. They had the lowest price I could find, and great customer service. They are also a Yamaha dealer. I'd give them a call for pricing.

The New Merc 150 4-stroke should be considered. Many success stories here in Tampa Bay. The motor has been on serious back order for a while...

I was going to say the same thing as James. You can have a brand new Merc 150 EFI 4-stroke shipped to you, probably more powerful than the Yamaha (more displacement) for $9950, plus about $200 shipping and no sales tax. Most white Whalers have Mercs on them anyway, so it should look good. Most other 150's are overpriced. Mercury put this engine out specifically to compete with the Yamaha 150, and priced it agressively to take Yamaha sales.

Tks guys. I will give custom marine in states boro a call. Under 10000 for a 150. They do want to be competitive. LHG were you selling the 23 with the twin optimax. Boat s name was Running Late

Tks. JJC

I'd second the 150 Merc Four Cycle. I put one on my 22' Outrage and it is strong and fuel efficient and unbelievably quiet. I've tilted the motor out at the end of the day not realizing it was still on.

If you fish, the electronic controls have a "Troll" setting that lets you adjust RPM down to 550 which is about 1.8 mph. I'll troll on the 150 because it is quieter and smoother than the 9.9 four cycle.

I am thinking mer 4 150 their metal treatment is better and they are presently about4000 cheaper than a Yamaha 150

Glad to here you like yours. What do you troll for at 1.8 mph. Offshore I troll at 6 to 8. Kings. Dolphin. Wahoo. And the occasional sail fish. We also hit sharks and barracuda not by choice

I know of a person who just repowed an Outrage 25 with a pair of these new Mercury 150 EFI 4-strokes and so far is raving about them. He says the power is incredible for 150's and extremely quiet running. They are the lightest 150 4-stroke on the market. I think you would be happy with the engine on your Whaler, and have noticed that it seems to be the preferred power choice for the new 210 Montauk.

From what I have read and seen the 150 mer 4 XL is my first choice. I have a lead on a 130 block for 1000 that I am also pursuing. Used 150's are also about 4000. I could part mind out for around 2000

King salmon.

The 150 is a sweet engine. 10% more displacement than the Yamaha 150. I suspect Mercury will offer it as a 200HP soon.

i am the owner of the 25 with Whaler Drive LHG referred to, and yes, just purchased twin 150 Merc 4 stokes. Still in the breakin period, but so far love them. VERY quiet, but still under the gun, have a distinct sound, that's very pleasing. While following the breakin procedures, which is 10 mins at 4500 RPM's, followed by 1 min at max speed, i hit 47.4 MPH, and thats using my old Yamaha props, haven't even dialed in the right prop and with 75 Gals of fuel, and two bodies. I'm expecting close to 50 MPH once i select new stainless props. Good luck on your purchase!

I got a 4 chime from power tech props they matched it well. Is one of your 150s. Counter rotating ? I am still pursuing a used engine and or block first while I save my lunch money for a new one.

Very happy with the Suzuki 150. The 140 is probably the right motor for the boat. The Yamaha mechanics don't want you know about the Suzuki. They are too simple! They don't break! Most service is easier than all others.

Yes Ventura, one of my motors is counter rotating.
