I have the ENTIRE Mills setup for '89 Outrage 22' bow to stern. Took off EVERYTHING including the bimini and front shelter stainless supports. Original owner never used it. I used it one season and one winter outdoor storage. Some zips are missing teeth, a couple snaps are gone but overall in good shape. You can have it (less the console cover which I use) for cost of shipping from Portland, OR. Could probably ship it UPS Freight Collect. The stainless ribs add to weight and bulk for shipping cost. |

So UPS says the canvas with the ss supports is too big even though the entire front section only weighs 24 lbs. USP Frt wants $947.00 to ship it from PDX to PIT. I could get a first class ticket and pay for it as oversize luggage for that kind of money. Anyone have an frt suggestions for shipping a 24lb 67 x 53 x 9 package? |

Have you tried Greyhound - (yes the bus company) - I had a leaning post shipped a few years ago using them and it was much cheaper. Beyond that place an ad on Uship - Youd be surprised how inexpensive stuff can move when people are going that way with extra room. |

I have also heard Greyhound is good for these oversize items. I have shipped a few different surfboards using Pilot Freight company. The most economical way is to deliver the package to their terminal, usually near an airport, and pick it up from the terminal on the receiving end. The will do door to door, but that's where a lot of the expense lies. The first time I used them, they were happy to do business with me directly as a private customer. A year later, I used a shipping broker, and needed to ship via a commercial business. Both times is was $60-$70 to ship a box 10' x 30" x 6" from coast to coast. Insurance was included in that pricing, and the boards arrived in excellent condition both times. |

I shipped a 22 Outrage Cuddy Full Mills canvas enclosure from Seattle to Detroit for about $100 via Greyhound. It took 3 weeks because I did not pay the extra $85 for expedited shipping but, I was in no hurry. |

Thanks for this information. I never knew Greyhound did this. |

Dimesions of the Mills front cuddy canvas with ribs is 67 x 53 x 9 (UPS measured it). Maximum for Greyhound is 30 inches X 47 inches X 82 inches. So doesn't look like that will work either. |

I called the place andygere recommended, Pilot Freight and they can ship everything for $205.22. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I appreciate everyone's help with this, especially EaglesPDX. Thank you. Andy |

Gotta tell you giving away stuff was never so much work. Worth it though, nice to know the original Whaler stuff is getting a new life. Didn't want to throw it away. I mean who would want a Mills canvas setup for a 25 year old boat? |

Hey! You know what? I am actually looking for the thing myself. Problem is distance. I am in BC as in Canada. Too bad that you cant ship canvas first and deal with the poles later. There is always the bus shipping I guess. |

quote: That attitude is exactly why parts for these boats will become increasingly difficult to source, and gain value. It's why I was able to sell an original, NOS Taylor-Made spotlight for $300 recently on this forum. The only difference is that Mills can still make a new canvas setup for your 25 year old boat - so the value here is in the pricing...but you literally gave yours away. Probably could have sold it for a few hundred dollars just as quickly. but you are a good man for diverting it from the landfill. |

I can't thank EaglesPDX enough. The forward shelter and the entire Mills canvas enclosure for my outrage 22 arrived safely this weekend. The canvas is in excellent condition (hardly ever used). The packages were shipped via Pilot Freight and the cost was @$190. EaglesPDX does not want anything for all of his efforts and I am truly blessed with his generosity. I have a 4 year old son and I'm going to use the forward shelter on rainy days. Tomorrow is my birthday and I couldn't ask for a better gift. It's nice to know there are still people out there like EaglesPDX. Now I just need the installation diagram. I'm going to call Mills tomorrow and see if I can get a copy. I purchased a consol cover from Mills last year and they were very helpful. I'll keep you posted and will upload pictures after it's installed. Thanks again EaglesPDX!!!!! Andy |

quote: Too funny. Took some friends boating and they had three kids, 1 yr, 4 yr and 6 yr. Clever mom brings these low down beach chairs and she and kids are sitting under the forward shelter doing games and stuff, like camping out. Rainy salmon fishing trip. Didn't want to toss it. Glad to pass it forward. The Pilot Frt thing (thanks andygere) worked great. Remember that for future stuff. |

Andrew, I noticed some Mills diagrams on www.whalercentral.com. I don't know if I saved and included them but that piece the first and second support are attached to goes to a ss piece mounted in on each side inside of the hull. You'll need that piece (from Mills?). The third suppport mounted on a sliding fitting mounted on the gunwale. That looked typical for Bimini's....local canvas shop or West Marine. And then the snaps...72 I think including the rear cover ones. Might pay to jury rig and mark where the snaps and supports go vs. going strictly by the diagram. |
