Because my wife and I are reaching one of those plateaus in life, we are changing how we boat, and as a consequence, we are selling our 1988 Boston Whaler Temptation in order to downsize. So our beloved Temptation 2500, “Latest Temptation”, is now for sale.

For you ContinuousWave folks, this is the boat shown on Cetacea Page 78. We are asking $17,500.88.

http://m278.photobucket.com/albums/WhalerAce/Temptation%202500/

I have attached the official Boston Whaler sales pitch below, because they can describe it better than I can, but the personalized information that should be added is this:

1) We rescued it from a life of idleness in Freeport, ME, about ten years ago.
2) We purchased a new 8500# Loadmaster trailer on which to ride it at that time. It is a twin-axled aluminum I-Beam trailer with torsion suspension with five Goodyear Marathon radials (one spare).
3) The Yamaha engines are original, are carbureted, and have never failed to start. We did have the carbs cleaned about two years ago, and we have the lower unit serviced every year. We have put less than two hundred hours on the engines since we purchased the boat.
4) We replaced the two swivel seats about two years ago when the original factory ones began to deteriorate.
5) The cabin has been used to store life jackets, charts, and clothes, but we have never even slept in the cabin, though that was our intention when we got the boat.
6) It stays in a garage when not in use
7) It is great for a family with young kids because they have a safe place to play and nap while underway.
8) It has the ski tow pylon, which can pull several skiers or wakeboarders at a time. The twin Yamahas don’t even slow down.
9) Although the semi-official word is that this rig will do around 60 mph, I have never had it that fast – I think about 54 mph via GPS is the fastest it has been. But I do not run it that fast, preferring instead to remain around 3000 to 3500 rpm on the gauges, because that seems to be the “sweet spot” for the engines, and we are not in a hurry to go anywhere. Beside, the mpg almost doubles at that speed.
10) This boat handles rough water very well, and is unique for the older Whalers in that it is a very dry-running boat regardless of chop or wind direction.
11) Although we are downsizing, we are downsizing to another Boston Whaler.

Official Boston Whaler Description below:

Boston Whalers have long been considered among the best oceangoing boats on the market. But sporty they are not.

Sure, they are able to handle rough water, slamming their way through rollers so big they scare all aboard. And they can take you out and bring you back alive (although not necessarily dry).

But sporty? Hardly.

That all changed with the Boston Whaler Temptation 2500. A cuddy cabin cruiser featuring a big four-person cockpit with comfortable seating and a huge foredeck. The sizable cabin boasts ample sitting headroom, plus two facing settees fore and aft with a removable center berth extension.
The boat has the Whaler Drive system.

It's an outboard motor mount bracket made by Boston Whaler in its own factory. Construction is the same as the Boston Whaler: an inner and an outer shell of hand-laid fiberglass with liquid foam injected between. When the foam has cured, the bracket is as strong and indestructible as the boat itself.

The bracket is bolted to the transom, extending a good 30 inches behind the boat.It gives more room inside the boat because no wet well is needed. Also the bulk of the motor is outside of the boat, so none of it is overlapping the boat's cockpit.

The Whaler Drive also manages to circumvent the drawbacks of other bracket mounting systems, particularly that of weight distribution.

A V-4, V-6 or V-8 outboard weighs from 300 to 600 pounds. Hang that on a bracket extending 30 inches behind the transom of a lightweight, 25-foot planing hull, and the result could be a serious case of imbalance. The bow may be raised to a point where the boat is difficult to control.
Not so with the Whaler Drive. The entire bracket is a foam-filled flotation device. As the weight pushed it down in the water, the bracket picks up buoyancy and supports the stern of the boat.

This Boston Whaler Temptation 2500 is sharp and sporty. The cabin is big, spacious and airy for a boat this size, with an acrylic glazed hatch in the overhead that opens out onto the foredeck.

The gelcoat-lined bunk pads have plenty of stowage space underneath, and there's more space under the two facing sofas. Beneath the bunk is a cabinet that contains a Port-a-Potty, with an upholstered bunk extension that covers it when it's not in use.

The cockpit contains pedestal seating for the pilot and navigator, and a full-width settee in the rear that can seat two or three more people comfortably.

It includes a ski tow pylon, a stereo music system, windshield wiper and a color coordinated cover, plus a host of other items.

It also just happens to be capable of handling the roughest of ocean water with ease.

25 on a trailer in a garage? That must be some garage.

I actually had built it for my last Outrage-22 WD with a tower. It is 24' wide by 48' long and about a 12' ceiling. The right half is recessed into the ground by 5', so that there is a "dock" on the left-hand side where all of my tools are stored. With the pipe-lights on the side of the trailer, there is about 4" on either side clearance when pushing the boat into the garage with a front-mounted hitch on my new Expedition.

The boat looks nice and best of luck with the sale, however now I'm jealous of the garage.

OK, from what I read from the Manufacturer's sheets:

lbs Description
---- -------------------------------
4350 25' WD Temptation
0390 200HP Yamaha Outboard
0390 200HP Yamaha Outboard
0100 two batteries
0950 Loadmaster Trailer 8500# capacity
0700 124 gallons of fuel
0200 other "Stuff" you find
====
7080 total weight

I always "guessed" around 7300 pounds. I have not actually weighed the rig because it seems like we were always trying to get to the water (and the scales were the other way on the Interstate), or if we actually passed by, we did not want to have to stop, uncouple, hold of the truck drivers, and then hook back up.

BTW, we are planning getting a Ventura 21 for our replacement.

Does this mean you will become Ace Ventura?

No interest? Come on, summer is speeding by, and we want to begin our search for a Ventura in earnest. Thanks

How about if I throw in a nine-foot Tender project boat as an incentive?

UPDATE: I have reduced the price to $12,500 because the Ventura that we have been looking at just came down in price, and I am willing to pass the savings along. Surely, someone wants to own this classic Whaler!

Thanks!

Hi Ace,

If your boat was in Europe i would have bought it straight away.
I have been searching for this model in europe for over six years.
It is a very exclusive vintage boston whaler, which will only become much more valuable every year.
I have just found myself a Temptation 22 with Mercruser 5.0 Mpi and posted yesterday. Do you happen to know how many Temptations were produced over all en of which length each?

Merry Christmas

Hi Ace, is the Temptation sold?

Yes, the Temptation is sold. It went to a local couple who have just moved to the Charleston area. It will be nice to still see it on the harbor.
