I may have a buyer for my engine if I am willing to separate from the hull.

Accordingly, what would you estimate the value of my hull only is, without controls, cables, and gauges? To refresh your memory, there are many pictures of my boat/hull in my boat listing:

It is minimally damaged by Sandy, if at all, save for rubrail scuffs and a small cosmetic nick here or there, to clear up any misconceptions. It was never submerged or filled with water.

Perhaps if the value is very small I would donate it to the police department.

Once objective source I checked says about $8K.

Sal,
I agree that the value of the hull is in the $8-9$k range, but with the following caveot. Considering the difficulty selling your boat as a complete boat and motor package at a very reasonable price, I think you will have an even tougher time selling the hull without a motor, despite it's fine condition. I suspect that part of the difficulty in selling is that your region is just beginning recovery from a major disaster, and that has really limited the field of local buyers. You may have better luck advertising it as a complete package in other coastal areas such as Rhode Island and Cape Cod. Clean Whalers always seem to be in high demand in those areas, and they bring premium pricing. The Jersey Shore is not too far to travel to buy a great boat at a great price.

It really is a nice boat, and when you sell just the motor, you completely lose your investment in rigging it, which probably cost you $2k+. Considering that your asking price for the whole package is less than you paid for the motor, perhaps the buyer interested in your motor will take the whole thing, and then selling the hull becomes his problem. Sorry for the long answer to a simple question.

Concur with last post would not separate the engine and boat. Have you tried listing the boat in the southeast. South Carolina Georgia. Florida? Even without trailer it is a great buy. Used 150s. In good shape are high priced Looking at 10000 to 12000. I know I need one for my 18 Ventura which has a blown Honda not so great engine .

Sal, DO NOT sell that motor off and then try to sell the hull without power. Selling a decent Whaler without power is the kiss of death. I honestly think you would be looking at offers in the $4,000 Range. Maybe.

The two things working against selling your boat without power is, it is a Revenge not an Outrage. Also, if it was a 22 Revenge you might be able to do a little better than that but the 20 is a odd duck to buyers.

Only plus to separation is that the boat becomes attractive to someone who has issue with owning an E-TEC. We've all heard the story..."I'd buy that boat if not for that X engine"

IIRC, this boat is being offered without a trailer. For some, that may br a hurdle, so I would suggest trying to locate a serviceable trailer to slip under it so you have the full package to sell. Just a thought.

I think this is a very nice Revenge 20 and am surprised it hasn't sold yet.

Thanks for all of your input.

Jeff, I have especially imposed on you for your expertise far too often.

Again, much appreciated everybody.

For the life of me, I do not understand why the boat has not sold. I have seen the pictures and description, the boat appears to be a solid value at the asking price. I would guess it is just a matter of the "right" person seeing the advertisement. I do not think the lack of a trailer would hinder the sale of the boat, trailers are easy to find and set-up for this hull.

Sal, have you advertised it with Bob Fidler (sp) with Anglers Edge Marine? I have heard good things about him and getting his listings sold. He has a flat rate listing fee and is a sponsor on another boating forum (THT). Just a thought,

Robert

Hi Robert. It is advertised with Angler's Edge.

Many people have had the impression that the boat was damaged by Sandy - not the case. My house was. I guess we should build a new house with Boston Whaler construction techniques...

The good news is that in all likelihood it will be sold this weekend to a local guy from Staten Island pretty much at my asking price. I feel really sad selling her, and selling her this low, but it is smart to just sell and move on.

Thanks everyone. I will report back if the deal is consummated.

The market for a 20 foot boat without a trailer is much more limited than for the same boat with a trailer.

Without a trailer any out of the area buyer is all but eliminated. Without engines the buyer pool becomes even smaller.

If I was back in the Washington, DC area I would at least be looking at this boat and looking into buying a trailer, but I have a pretty good idea what a bargain the boat represents.

I hope your sale works out.
