Below is an ad I am about to place and I need the opinion of all the Whaler folk on this site. I am having a hard time deciding what my asking price should be. The first number that popped into my head was $16k. This boat is the result of a labor of love, as well as blood, sweat and tears (plus a lot of swearing). Some of the people on this board that were at the Bodega Bay get together in 2012 will attest to the condition of the boat. So, am I being realistic in this asking price? Or am I just dreaming...

Lowrance HDS-7 with structure scan
Standard Horizon radio with GPS interface to Lowrance HDS-7
for DSC distress calls
Lowrance fuel flow sensor wired to display GPH on the HDS-7 dispay
New Moeller fuel tank
Custom built teak rear bench seat
Igloo 94 Qt marine cooler
Fortress anchor
2010 Karavan trailer
All new marine grade wiring with the exception of the original motor harness
2 New Die Hard AGM deep cycle marine batteries
New lifting eyes and bow light
New dash panel
New bottom paint
New rub rail
New seat cushions
Rail mount rod holders (not shown in pictures)
New Carver cover (trailerable)

This boat was purchased in 2010 from the San Diego area. After a short stretch of use the boat was stripped down to the bare hull. The console and all hardware was removed as well as all the stickers. The brass drain tubes were replaced with new ones and the entire hull was scrubbed down. The old bottom paint was removed. The entire hull with the exception of the cockpit floor (non-skid pattern) was wet sanded then polished and buffed. The rub rail was replaced with a new one. The hull was sprayed with three coats of new bottom paint. New decals were applied.
The console was stripped of all hardware and fasteners then wet sanded and polished as well. The console was rebuilt with a new dash panel plate and fitted with Baystar Hydraulic steering. All teak on the boat was cleaned, sanded, and recoated with a minimum of 8 coats of marine varnish. Most parts have 10 or more coats. Several custom teak pieces were built for mounting of the binnacle and a platform for the top of the console. The console was reinstalled with all new marine grade wiring with the exception of the motor harness which was reused. A new 28 gallon fuel tank was installed under the seat and new fuel lines (ethanol resistant) were installed as well as a fuel filter with water separator. Lowrance electronic were installed with an interface to the radio for emergency DCS notification. The Lowrance HDS-7 has the side scan sonar option as well as an interface to a fuel flow sensor. Estimated GPH can be displayed on the GPS chart page.
The 2006 Evinrude E-tec 90 HP motor was installed on a 5-1/2” Rite-Hite jack plate for better performance. A Mercury 5 HP four stroke kicker motor was mounted to the starboard of the E-tec. It is fed from the same fuel tank as the Evinrude. The E-tec has an internal oil reservoir for the 2-stroke motor so there is no need for oil mixing in the main fuel tank. I have the service records from the original owner of the motor. (it was removed from a 1977 Boston Whaler Nauset).
Reassembly was done with about 90% new stainless steel fasteners. This boat includes everything you need to start enjoying it right down to the safety equipment. The motor starts right up first time. I have never had it not start on me. A lot of labor went into restoring this boat and I really hate to part with it but unfortunately I must sell it.

Hate to say it, but... there's a very weak market at that price. It's a nice setup and it'll sell faster than others on the market if priced correctly, but at that price it'll likely sit for a long time.

Dave, while the rest of the US does fall into that tendency, the one thing divtruk has going is the boat is SUPER Clean and it is for sale in the crazy market that is the West Coast. To be even more specific, the California coast not far from the high dollar bay area. Buyers could come locally and others from Seattle to San Diego would likely not be scared off to drive and get it. If any location could bring close to that price, I think he is in it.
I would start at $15,500 - $16,000 on Craiglist and see what kind of traction you get. If you do not HAVE to sell it, then wait for the right offer or even the asking price. If you must sell it and you are not getting traction at that price, drop it $500 every two weeks until gone. The boat should be gone fairly quick.

Other than the bottom paint it is hard to find fault with that boat. The attention to detail is outstanding.
It only takes one person to appreciate the effort put into this vessel.

For reference, two years ago I sold a 1995 17 Montauk with a 2010 75 eTec that was not as nice as yours, for $13,000 or $13,500 - I can't recall exactly.

Let me add that if you were more local to NJ, and it were spring, I would do everything in my power to buy your boat, despite my boat budget being... challenged.

Grat looking boat but like Dave said a little high i think, but maybe salt water boats are worth more? I would at least put down how big the boat is or are all Montauks on the West Coast one size?

divtruk, when I was in my quest for a Whaler and speaking to the sellers of my potential boats, they would indicate that they were getting numerous calls. Are you getting a lot of calls? You should be if priced correctly.

For reference. The boat sold for $15k in about 5 weeks. There is a market for a nice whalers on the west coast.
