I was trying to assess a value of a project whaler 18 outrage and need some opinions of value of the engines. The owner planned on mounting twin 60hp 4 stroke Yamaha engines which are still in the original crates I believe that these engines are 5 years old but could be as old as 8 years. the hull is disassembled sitting on a new trailer with all parts including a new tank. I would think that selling these engines as a pair or separating them would be the most lucrative way to go and then either reassembling the outrage or selling as a kit of parts with or without trailer would be the best bet. What do you think the market is for the engines?

George - If those engines were 4-stroke Mercs, you'd have some serious value, but with Yamaha, not so sure. Check the powerhead detailed specs of the two brands, and you will see they are gray painted Mercury blocks anyway.

The Yamaha 60 4-strokes are very desirable and will have high value.
See if you can find out if they are EFI or carbs. EFI is best. I think EFI on the 60 started in 2005.
They will say "Electronic Fuel Injection" on the cowling or get the model number off the box or engine to find out the year.

So if I have a 92 (maybe 94) Yamaha Precision Blend 40 w/ tilt and controls and the block is painted grey could it be a Mercury in Yamaha colors? Manufactured by Mercury?

I5 may be interested in one of the outboards for my 15 footer. I assume they are 20" shafts.
where are they located?

The engines are 20" shafts and are in Broward county Florida an I am NOT the owner.

LHG, Why on earth would these Yamaha engines be worth much less than if they were mercury?
