For sale: Solid teak board for covering the top of a Standard Outrage or Montauk Console.
If your console is perforated like this:

...an easy solution is to cover it with teak like this:

The board is solid teak, 1/2" thick with an edge profile that matches the teak access door frames found on classic Montauk and Outrage consoles.
This board is sized to fit the 1986-2002 consoles but may fit earlier ones too.
I was recently asked to mill a teak top for a couple friend's Montauks and the one piece of lumber I found at the wholesaler that had suitable grain was large enough to make three of them, This is the extra.
The grain is excellent, tight and vertical. Cupping should not be a problem. I have kerfed the backside to further minimize any tendency to cup.

I recommend the teak board be attached with small screws driven from below so no hardware shows.
If you need a large hole for your compass cut into this board, I can do that too.
It has been sanded to 220 grit and is ready for the finish of your choice.

How much for will-call.
Also, do you seal the bottom edge, or how do you keep the underside from getting wet and stinky over the years.
I have a guest spotlight I want to take out, but afraid of the holes I am going to have to deal with.

I've done this on two previous Whalers I've owned, a Montauk and an Outrage 18. I didn't seal the bottoms at all. The Outrage 18 I owned for over ten years and it was never a problem. It was easy to remove the teak for refinishing and never cupped or got "stinky". But those boats were not left uncovered when not in use.
My intuition tells be that if you bedded the perimeter with a sealant, it would just eventually hold moisture in and cause more trouble.
