It hass been years since I've been on here. Coming up on 3years since I sold my beloved Montauk.
Anyhow - The timing might be right for my next boat. I'm thinking hard about an Outrage 18. I'm looking for a clean, freshwater, original boat with newer power and a good trailer.

Good luck with your search. I remember when Jeff told me of your Montauk being for sale and almost coming to get it.
Something told me the Montauk would be too small for my needs and I passed. One year later I found my Outrage 18 with a not so new outboard that runs great to this day. It was in pretty good shape other than the bright work which I had fun refinishing. Perfect size boat and I love all the wood. Welcome back.

The Montauk is deeply missed. Over the last 3 years, I've rolled through a lot of ideas, ranging from a new 22' Everglades, to an Outrage 22, to a Revenge 25. Also been of the mindset that I don't need a boat. I'm on a retirement schedule and don't want to blow it. I did pick up a 14' Wilderness Systems kayak, which gets me on the water and to the fish - cheap, healthy & fun.
I woke up last Sat morning just wanting to load up my girls, wife, cooler, chairs, grill and go to an island on Lanier we used to frequent -drop anchor and back it in securing the stern close to the beach. My whole family loved that beach. Always good people and good times. Would the Montauk still work? Sure it still would have, but its gone. After 3 years - I've decided an Outrage 18 might be the most rational direction for my situation. Less upkeep (but still plenty to tinker with). Less gas. No loan. Enough room. Better ride than my Montauk. Easy to tow.

Matt, Have you considered the later 19 Outrage II? It is a bit more family friendly with more seating options. This one has been on the market for a few months up here due to the harsh winter.

That said, if you are using it for mostly a Family boat have you / would you consider something else? I know of a VERY clean and like new 18 GTX very close to you on Lake Lanier.
Also, I know the flack that will come with this comment but, I could not be happier that I did not buy an Outrage as my family's main boat. The Grady White Tournament (dual console) is one of the best boats I have owned for the family uses.

As Jeff stated, the Outrage II interior layout is very appealing and I have looked into mods to make my interior more like the Outrage II. My boat does not have the stern seat and filling in the bow step seat area would make the boat more comfy for sunning.
The loss of the teak trim would be the biggest downside of the Outrage II.

I think the biggest downside to the 19 Outrage 2 is the extra 650 lbs and no way to replace the fuel tank without cutting up the floor. Where did the extra 650 lbs come from? Thats like having 3 extra people onboard.

Just out of curiousity what features makes the 19 outrage II more family friendly than a 18' outrage I?
I do think that a dual console front seating bow rider setups like the grady's have do offer some more family appeal, specifically the 27' with twin 200's.

Family Friendly Features,
Well for my type of uses the large padded area in the bow greatly appeals to my wife and kids as an area to lounge while on the hook, or ride while in sheltered areas. The higher lounge area allows someone to lay up there and keep an eye on young swimmers. Laying on the floor of a Classic Outrage you are way down and out of sight lines.
The stern seats provide great seating area that is easy to get over to the transom and in and out of the water. While a full width stern seat provides a larger area to sit, they can be a pain to get up and over when boarding from a swim ladder. For small kids it usually means the parents are having to jump over the seat and carry or crane the kids up and over.
The console is much taller and provides a much better screen to duck behind and get out of the elements. For me, I rarely minded getting blasted in the face with the wind while up on plane. My Wife on the other hand always hated it and the small low wind screens on the classic consoles. I think many others do as well.
Other nice features are built in live wells, raw water wash downs, etc….
Finally Storage, the 19 Outrage II have more storage available for “stuff” in general.
