I have a 1972 Sakonnet that I wish to sell, but not sure what it is worth. The hull and railing is sound. mohagany console has dry rot and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Motor is 1996 90HP Mariner. Needs new steering cables and mechanism. I have pictures if that helps. Any suggestions?

The best thing to do would be to watch Craigslist in your area to see what similar boats are going for. Depending on condition and motivation of buyer and seller, I would estimate $5,000 on the low end, and roughly $7,$$$ on the high end.

No disrespect but a boat that needs a new console and new steering will probably not see $5k in the Florida market and will never see $7k(unless it has a newer motor). The true value will come with the condition of the hull gelcoat. If free from the typical crazing and spider cracks you may get a higher dollar. But that is rare.
Post up some pictures - we can probably help better narrow it down for you.

Sadly I'm not surprised with sraab928's response. There are spider cracks. There don't appear to be any soft spots. Thanks for your input. I will see if I can get some pics posted.

Honestly, I would guess $2000-3000 if the hull is in pretty good shape. An 18 yr old Mariner is not worth a whole lot and the boat sounds like it will need some real work to make it something someone would be proud of. No offense, but it sounds like a project boat and most people aren't going to spend too much on a boat they can't use immediately.

An old boat is only worth what someone will pay....condition helps but bottom line you need to get the money in your hand, Also you need to be happy with the money you got for the boat.
