Hi everyone,

I am about to join the family of Whaler owners, but need some help first. I live in RI, and am purchasing a boat in Florida, and need a survey done.

The boat is a 22' Dauntless from 2001 that was completely refurbished in 2013 including several accessories that were offered on the later 230 Dauntless including aluminum T-Top, and the rear all activity tower. It was also re-rigged in 2013 with a new Yamaha F225, (mfg in 2011).

It appears that these are all BW original parts, and my understanding is that this was done at a Whaler dealer, but the boat was a trade-in. Therefore there is no paperwork, and no one to talk to who did the work.

The engine is under warranty, so my biggest concern is really having someone who knows older whalers make sure the hull is sound, and the re-rigging was all done to the appropriate standard of work, particularly because the F225 is 62pounds heavier than the old 225 Opti's intended for the hull.

Any recommendations based on personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

If the boat is a Lauderdale boat the local whaler dealer is Lauderdale marina at the bottom of 15th street right on the intercoastal and they may know the boat
If not I'm sure they could recommend a survey company or may do the survey themselves they seem to be a first class operation
Just a side note
A few winters ago I ran in to a gentleman at the fuel dock with a nice 25' outrage we started talking and it was LHG nice guy and beautiful boat
Good luck
Regards Rob

Rob,
Thanks so much for the reply. I will definitely check in with them and see if they know the boat. I found a surveyor who had gotten pretty rave reviews on THT, (Bill Potter), so far he seems great to work with, and I will post back how things go.
