Looking for any bare 16'7 (17 foot) hull to resuscitate our old Whaler. Do not need a trailer, motor or any other parts.
The story-
My 1961 Eastport has been my baby for the 33 years I've owned her. When the family got too big, we got a 22 Outrage and let the old BW rest awhile.
Several years ago I got a "help me call" call from some friends stranded on a sandbar. It was a very short tow and my choices to help them that day were our son's jetski or the old BW. She had been sitting for several years, but I threw in a battery and she fired right up. I hooked her up to the jeep to dash the two short blocks to the boat ramp. Since it was such a miniscule jaunt, I did not bother to throw on a stern strap. As I rounded the first corner, at a speed far greater than I needed to be going, I watched as my beloved Whaler departed the trailer. She left the bow eye still attached to the trailer winch, and a long white trail of foam and fiberglass along the macadam.
She was with me in my youth in Va Beach, the Outer Banks and Low Country Carolina. She went with me to flight school in the Florida panhandle and explored the gulf coast rivers and bayous. She has traveled to both sides of the country and the Pacific with me. I dated my wife and we taught our kids to love the water on her. She has been lovingly repaired many, many times; but that last skid nine years ago was the worst. She sits in repose, sheltered on a nice trailer. Her motor beats strong and her mahogany shines through dark varnish, All is serviceable, excepting her hull.
With the kids mostly in College, I keep daydreaming about my old Eastport and have largely ignored the big thirsty Outrage.
I'm not sure if it is in the budget, schedule or cards, but if anyone has a line on a bare hull to support the rest of my awesome old friend, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike
