The good thing is they are out there and no one wants them so, you should be able to find one for pretty cheap. I almost bought this one 3ish years ago when it was for sale from it's original owner outside of Atlanta. It was a well kept boat with a new interior, but high hours on the motor. The seller would not go below $10,000 and I was not going to go that high. She contact me a year later and said if I was still interested she would take my $7500 offer, but I had already bought my Grady Dual Console. So, it looks like it was bought and taken to Texas. This is the second or third Ebay listing for the boat with this seller and this is the first time the auction has gotten above $5000. |

That boat looks as if it has at least $1,000 in new interior. |

The outboard version of the 18 GTX is a great boat, in demand and hard to find. Great hull (from the 18 Outrage), lightweight (1350# - less than a new style 170 Montauk), bow rider dual console style. Comfortable seating, lots of storage and great for families. |

George, I seem to remember the owner told me they spent $2500 - $3000 to have anderson's do the interior back in 2009ish I think. |

I talked to the owner of the GTX in the Ebay auction and he "said" he's had the boat since 2001. As of a couple weeks ago, he'd take $5k for it. I strongly considered it, but the motor (although the owner says it has no issues) aND cost of shipping led me to leave it. I also would've had to put a new trailer under it as the saltwater here in FL would eat that old painted steel in no time. |

I also note the auction above doesn't have any bidding activity, so I'm sure he'd still take $5k. |

BKJones, If that is the case then I am wrong, it not the same boat. But I know where it's clone is. I thought for sure this is the same boat because of the new interior. I did not think there was that many who would drop that kind of coin on a GTX interior. Almostblue, if you want the contact for the one in Atlanta email me directly. She might still have the boat. |

exactly thank you masbama! that looks clean - strange that they took the fuel filler unfortunately that is $3,000 in shipping away from California I think the most I could get for my V8 version would be $5,000 - There is a complete outboard (1984 two stroke outboard) version available, but $12,000 is way too much for me. I guess the difference in price based on availability could buy a lot of zincs and diver services. I would also love to find a Dauntless or Ventura on the west coast. |

There is one with a new engine for $8500 on Rhode Island Craigslist. Looks real clean. |

https://providence.craigslist.org/bod/4559640315.html thanks - nice boat! needs the original wheel and sad about the speakers, but otherwise fantastic boat. In our case we may just end up replacing all of the outdrive and becoming more religious about replacing the anodes. It is just so nice to have the engine 100% inboard and 100% water cooled with that fantastic heat exchanger. It is only a matter of salt corrosion on the outdrive. Not sure if the Marina will allow a lift, but that would also work. |

thanks - that boat has been for sale for a long time. I am sure the owner has a lot of money invested, especially the new powerhead on the ancient Etec outboard. Actually I really like the new Etec two strokes a lot more than the four strokes - they are very light, clean running, the don't smoke, and are extremely fuel efficient and quiet! It is so counter-intuitive! at the price of that boat, or even 2/3, I think the newer Dauntless / Ventura hull designs are a lot more attractive. They are listed for sale very high,m but saw a mint 2001 with a Honda just sell for 13K. I love the retro look of the GTX, but if I were to get a partner in the boat, they would insist on a newer hull design. The GTX is actually pretty scary on the bay in the summer westerlies, yet alone the ocean. It is kind of an urban legend that Whalers are great San Francisco bay boats. |

quote: I respectfully disagree. The classic Outrage hull is perfect for the San Francisco Bay. Over the last 15 years I have owned and/or restored several Whalers, including 17-Montauks and 18-Outrages. While the 17-Montauk is better suited for the north bay, which typically has short, choppy waves during the ebb, the 18-Outrage is perfectly suited for all the conditions in the Bay. I don't have any experience with the 18-GTX/Newport/Mountak in the San Francisco bay, so I can't comment on handling, but those models are so rare here that I think it's a mistake to generalize based on your experience with the GTX. |

On another note, the E-TEC engine on that GTX is at least a 2006. I believe this was the first year the E-TEC 150 was available (as a 2005 model). My guess is that it is more likely a 2010 model with a new warranty powerhead in 2011. |

almost blue, As the new proud owner of your GTX18 I am sold on the idea of converting it to an outboard configuration. I have started work on the engine compartment and placed the Mercruiser 260 V8 engine on the market to anyone interested. The add is listed here on "ContinuousWave" market. I will also place it on ebay starting this Sunday. Thank you again for all your help. |
