OMG-thats one of the hardest whaler to find for sale -27 Vigilant.
Powered with newer power and if not beaten up it could be a dream boat for somebody.Entire northern NJ Fire Departments that are by the water got new Vigilants with 300 Yammahas from Fema grants after Sandy.. I know of at least 6 and there is one in my marina. It is my dream whaler because it has everything I would ever need in a boat . One day they will be retiring them and will be waiting.
I wish it would be closer. I would be all over this one.

The 27 Vigilant is not the hardest whaler to find for sale. There are a number of them that have been in service through the years an you see them as well as 27 Challengers on GSAAuctions.gov.

The hardest to find Commercial Unibond Whaler is the 32 Vigilant. There was only 5 made. 2 where made as privately owned cruisers, 2 went into service with the Michigan DNR and 1 went into service as the Milwaukee Fireboat. Since about 2006 4 of the 5 have been sold and repurchased. When the 2 Michigan DNR vessels where sold at auction they went for right around $20,000. The Milwaukee Fireboat sold a few years later for the low-mid $20,000. That boat was resold about a year later at a Boston Whaler dealer in northern Wi for a little bit less.

Rory (Whaler27 on Here) owned one of the private Cruisers. You can read about it here:
http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/008448.html

He just recently sold that boat to a friend of a guy who I know in Houston. That boat was perfect and brought a large sum of money.

The last one, no one knows what Whaler did with it. It is shown in the catalog and that is where it's history stops.

Most 27's on GSA go for mid-teens to mid-20s depending on condition and power. The thing is, anything that is used by a government agency is usually beat on and never taken care of like it should be. Having gotten what looked to be a good condition 22 Guardian from GSA, I can say they are always more work than first glance. And these big whalers have a lot more systems to them. So they can be big money to make right. Oh, and big money to own, maintain and operate too. Which is way as much as classic Whaler lovers like them, they usually stay away from them.

This 27 is a decent looking boat with nice power (if they are in good service). I wish there was more images to see of it and more details in the auction listing. Also, I have signed up to bid and have to say their site is full of problems. Pages are not loading correctly and I am getting other errors. So who knows where the bidding will go if people can not place bids. I will watch this one with interest.

Here are images of one of the old Michigan DNR 32 Vigilant sold at auction. I took these images when I was invited for a ride with it's current owners to inspect the boat for a possible purchase..

Thanks for all the info Jeff- I was aware that 32 exists and only 5 were made. Didnt know info on each one and what happened to them so thanks for that.
Inboard powered whaler-I have no interest in that.
27 Vigilant is extremly hard to find . Chalenger no- they are fairly often available for sale.I have been waiting for one and exept one that was available in New Hampshire for ton of money last year I have never seen one for sale. And yes I do follow Gsa,Gov.Deals,Gov.Liquidators and few more.

Not sure what's going on w/ that 32 Jeff. I think it could be for sale at some point. I think they really enjoyed it.

Neat boat. I will be in Madison this weekend for the Badger game and will endeavor to stop by the Marina to take a look, if possible.

I was just informed that this 27 Vigilant has been added to the Chambers Island fleet.

It will look good with the three 30’ aluminum hulled Defiance’s currently in residence. Add in the 30’ Defiance in area operation by the Wisconsin DNR and that is quite an impressive concentration of large CPD vessels.

I will attempt to arrange a group photo next year.

Jeff,

Just to be clear I am not the owner of the Vigilant, a fellow islander is the lucky winner.

While I never thought I’d admit it, it is possible to own to many boats. It is better to have someone you know buy the latest and greatest and just bum rides when possible.

Craig

There seems to a real heavy concentration of cool Commercial Duty Whalers in the Chambers a island area.
