Am selling the Outrage, this is very difficult. Whaler is 1988 Outrage 18 with twin 1996 70hp Johnsons. Props are 18" Vipers. Tops out at 40 mph, so not fast, but has exceptional mid-range power. Decent Skipper B trailer, with good lights and new Goodyears. Hummingbird 788c, with hand held VHF charger and radio on console. Auto charger inside console. Fresh Interstates inside console. Replaced chairs with teak RPS from older Montauk. Engines have perhaps 250 hours. Recent check came back with report of compression and other as "good". Port carbs just rebuilt. Link and sync just completed by local shop. Boat is not beauty queen but is sound and cleans up well. Wills bimini and brand new custom blue Sunbrella cover which extends over engines [should have bought this years ago]. Am being transferred to LA from Houston. Kids live Nashville and BHM. Boat now in Nashville. Do not know market value of rig, so please let me hear suggestions and offers. Love this boat, it has taken much of my time, and provided the family and myself huge enjoyment. Everywhere I went, it was always, "nice boat". Oldest will trailer to reasonable point from Nashville. Will provide photos if there is interest. Would like to sell soonest. Thanks, Glen

All:
After checking on comparables at Boat Trader and other places, have determined a price of $10,000 in order to sell quickly. See several Outrage 19s at $12,000 which do view as nice as mine.

I have not seen the boat but the price does seem reasonable. If someone decides to re-power slightly used or new it would make for a nice option. Here is one in our neck of the woods right now for a few thousand less. This one is reported as in good condition ;0

After seeing pictures of both boats, combines with the fact that Marko is from British Columbia, its safe to say he is talking about the one in Vancouver.
The boat for sale here is a beaut.

Everyone,
Someone mentioned "repowering". Acie's Marine in Kemah has a 1986 Outrage 18 in their showroom which is better than factory. It has been repowered with a 135 eTec. Acie says it will run 48 mph, as the 135 eTec actually produces 150 hp. Having only one lower unit in the water helps also. Will begin listing Whaler in Boat Trader tomorrow. Glen

Hello everyone.
Two things:
1. I need help in selling the Whaler. I have received encouraging texts and emails from some of you, but no follow-on enquires. I have placed an ad with Boat Trader [started this past Monday] but have not received a single enquiry, not even from those who just want to talk about the boat. What is wrong with this picture? Is the asking price too high? Do I need to place sales specific photos? The boat is a good boat. Washed it yesterday, will oil and wax today. Took it for a last romp on Percy Priest yesterday. Help please.
2. SCAM. I received a text from a "Robert", who said that he was a marine engineer at sea, and after a minor amount of back and to, he stated that he wanted to purchase the Whaler, and that he was going to use PayPal and have a transportation company pick up the boat here in Nashville. The area code for Robert is in Louisiana. Robert will not answer specifics as to where he is at sea, when the PayPal deposit will happen, or when the pickup will happen. Yesterday another advertizing company calls me and wanted me to place an ad with them also, saying that they have a 90% success rate within 30 days. I began to relate my business with "Robert" to this gentleman, also named Glen. He immediately said scam. Asked if the person claimed to be in the Merchant Marine, did he mention PayPal. Said that it can get bad in that they put the money in PayPal, pickup the boat and then take the money back within 48 hours saying that they never took the boat. Hey, "Robert" if you are reading this, not going to happen.

I'm about as far from an expert as you can get as I am now shopping for my first whaler, but have been scouring the internet for whalers recently so I know which ads appeal to me.
First off you need better pictures. Close ups of the interior, console and hull. The far away shots you have don't let buyers get a good grasp for the condition of the boat.
Secondly, its probably the worst time to sell right now.
Lastly, I think that the dual engines probably scare some buyers away. Twice the maintenance and twice the things that can break down.

Thanks very much for the information, very helpful. Made contact with a fellow here in Nashville who runs several marinas here for the park service, and is a boat person. Asked many questions, knew what to ask. Confirmed your counsel: need more photos, do not look to sell until Spring, said to put ad in Craig's list for Nashville and Atlanta. Oiled the teak today, will start on gel coat tomorrow, then will put new cover on. Am going up in price for Spring.

Spring is always a better time to sell. Good close up shots are a must . With the age on the engines a compression from a good engine shop would help. As far as two engines I consider that a plus.especially 30 or 40 miles off shore. The 70s you have are practically bullet proof!
Let me know how your rework go's this winter might want to talk to you this feb or march.

Thanks for your reply. The number one son and I have been working on the Whaler, after a trip to West Marine. Second coat of teak oil down. Glass is looking really good after the buffer. Using new [to me] type of combination cleaner wax whose name begins with a "C", more expensive than 3M and others but very effective. After we finish tomorrow, may take the boat to the lake to take some up close photos. Acie's in Kemah just ran compression tests on both engines. The report was "good" but I don't know the specifics. I will have additional tests run with specific instructions to record results. Have not thought much about the negatives regarding the twins, but there is a whole bunch of "cool" factor when both 2 strokes are rolling. Glen

Besides the obvious twice the maintenance I think twins are a plus.
1. Redundant engines for offshore fishing
2. You can shut one down for trolling offshore save fuel
3. Handlling around dock you can spin a 360 with one forward and one in reverse
4. Incredible hole shots. Low end power is very important in following seas
5. As you mentioned a real "cool" factor on an 18
6. Look forward to seeing the pics
