Unused Garmin 540s turns on but screen stays dim/dark as to be unreadable. Purchased to read fuel usage from Garmin sensors on CANet and be a backup plotter.
Case unopened and no repair attempted.
For parts or repair $100.00 plus postage from 33036

So the backlight is bad (not turning on), or rather when the backlight option is manipulated up/down nothing happens?

I am unsure,but I can hardly read the menu options. I tried to press whatever sequence was in the manual. I cannot see the day/night mode for selection nor the backlight/manual backlight options. I bought this as a new but unused head unit only in a private sale but then put it away without trying it until I could get the accessories and the Garmin fuel sensors (my mistake for sure).
I have since purchased a 740s and 526s with Bluechart G2 for my area.
I installed the 740s on the 15 Sport and like it so much that I will probably buy another or larger for the OFFSHORE 27 and use the 526s to read fuel and as a backup plotter on the 27.
