1993 Walkaround, twin 1993 ocean runner 175's with 500 hours, in the water and used regularly....all new electronics last year including fusion stereo with Bluetooth, Lowrance chartplotter/fish finder...new VRO pump in port engine two weeks ago, starboard needs one now, runs well but smokes (about $700 to replace at my local mechanic including part), stern bench seat completely rebuilt this season, bimini top and console cover in mint condition..boat is solid, could use a good cleaning , overall very good shape for its age.....not sure of value but thinking in the 15k range, suggestions are more than welome... |

it's a nice boat, but you need more pics of the cockpit, interior. $15k with 22 year old engines may be a bit much. Just my .02. I like that most other stuff is updated. Take pics of the seat up/down, bimini up if you have one, etc. I passed your ad to a friend...we'll see if he calls! |

Are you selling it or buying? Is there a Trailer? What is you cabin layout? Porti-Potty, head with a holding tank, of the fully enclosed head with holding tank? Being the standard notched transom model (non Whaler Drive), not having the optional hard-top and being in fair - average condition without a trailer, the 15 range is a good place to start for an asking price. http://s1138.photobucket.com/user/mdltuck02/library/Whaler?sort=3& evt=email_share_media&page=1 ~~~~~~~~~~ When we bought our 23 Walkaround the asking price as 21k. It had the Whaler Drive, a Trailer, a huge custom hardtop, was never kept in the water (no bottom paint) and was in above average condition. Here is as it sits now: ~~~~~~~~~ BTW, whats the story with that Mako on your Photo Bucket Page? Nice boat. |

Thanks for the feedback, no trailer and I am selling...will post more pictures asap...as noted price is somewhat flexible, that's my old Mako in the pictures, sold it a while back, great boat |

I think the 15k is a pretty fair price for just the AWESOME hull if its in decent condition . The engines are not worth much on that hull as they are gas guzzlers and kill any chance of offshore fishing. I think the lack of a whaler drive is actually a positive for the boat, as a modern single 250 will get over 3 mpg at reasonable cruising speeds and still push it over 40 mph while losing around 200 lbs of weight on the transom. As others here have said in other threads and I fully agree with, get the weight off the transom and this boat exhibits far different handling characteristics. Now that I have the single 250, I can run anywhere between 15 and 28 mph at 3 + mpg, and the difference in handling is very noticeable, especially when carrying less than half a tank of fuel (75 gallons). Someone could get into this rig with a new trailer and new engine for less than $40K and have the equivalent of a $150k+ rig. This boat is truly awesome for a 23 footer and dwarfs the Cobia 25 in the slip next to me. |

Also, the boat has the fixed head without walls around it if that's helpful. Freshwater sink (I assume that is standard) not working but assuming it's a pump.... |

I have the '92 model of this boat. The sea keeping of this hull is incredible. I've been in a 6 - 8' sea, in the Great Lakes, which means a 6 -8' chop to anyone on either coast, and stayed dry. At ~$15 K this is too good to pass up for anyone who wants a pocket offshore Sportfisher or a nice overnighter. |

I think it's grossly underpriced at 12.5K. Put it on Craigslist and more websites for 18K and see what happens. I'd also list it in the Fisherman magazine with pics. I'd steal it at that price if I didn't already have the exact same boat. |

Any estimate on what a traileri might cost? When was the last time the bottom was painted? Do you have more pictures of the cabin and the boat out of water

An off the shelf trailer will not work. Having had to build a trailer for this hull, I can say you will need a custom trailer because of the hull design. Not only in the bunk layout, but you will need a double winch post for the bow to clear when launching. Also, custom trailer pricing is very region specific. We have ours build in Ohio and for an #8500 capacity trailer in it was in the mid 4k range. East coast will be a little higher, gulf coast will be less, and the west coast is ridiculous... Here is our trailer under our 23 Walkaround Whaler Drive. It's really tough to read in the images but our bunks are tapered and shaved to accommodate the hull.

I put a Karavan SLT7000 aluminum I-beam trailer under mine. I have the support bunks in front also, but I'm still dealing with the winch stand issue. I can crank the winch no problem, but the pulpit hits the stand when on the ramp. We have a really steep launch at my marina. I think I can just cut off about 4" off the top of the post and it will be fine. It was 4500 out the door with every option available and tows like it's not there if it weren't for the 7500# weight with the trailer. I bought it and the boat from John Herman Marine in Stamford, Ct. The boat, engines, and 150 gallons of fuel weigh close to 6000 lbs before you add any gear or batteries. |

By the way, I keep mine in the water and only tow it twice a year, so the trailer isn't a big issue for me. I bought a good trailer so that if I wanted, I could tow it to the Cape or RI to chase tuna. If you're just moving it twice a year and don't intend to tow it, you could probably find a galvanized trailer that will do the job for around 3000-3500. If you towed it light on fuel, you could probably get away with a 6000 lb trailer with no problems. |

Ventura, the bottom was painted at the start of this season, it was scraped to glass 2 seasons ago. Not sure on the trailer but some good info in here....will get some pictures of the cabin this weekend...Thanks for the replies guys |

We buy decent to solid vintage Montauks for the price. If you lived on the west coast that boat would be lined up with fist over fist begging you to take the money. It's funny what a location has to do with a sell in regards to Whalers. Best of luck with the sell it should move. |

I have recently become acquainted with several example of the Boston Whaler 23 WALKAROUND of the 1990's, and I have to express my admiration for that model. The asking price here seems very attractive. If I already did not own a similar size Boston Whaler, I would be quite interested in this boat. |

Ventura |
posted 08-25-2015 05:36 PM ET (US)
5500 is way too low. I believe the one mayor thing hurting the sale is the lack of trailer. Which, from my checking, is any where from 3500 to 5500 tandem brakes on both axles. 2 stroke vs 4 stroke engines are probably also in the equation, but to me not as much. Be interesting to see a normalized break down curve for 2 cycles vs 4 cycles. JJC |

This is nuts, this boat should have sold when it was first listed. BW doesn't even make a 23' Cuddy anymore, and the closest Conquest will set you back over $200+k. Here's my back of the napkin math: Boat 10 k, two "lightly used" 4-strokes, 150 hp, 20 K, New 30K, nice trailer 4 k. Hmmm... 10 + 20 + 4 = 34 k f'g k bucks, you can't buy a used 5 year old Suburban for that, |

posted 08-27-2015 02:27 AM ET (US)
Its also location. This boat would have been snapped up, but Hoosier your calculation would be wrong. It would have gone for more because it would have been listed for higher. I do like your numbers and it makes one even throw around what would it cost to delivery it? 10 + 20 + 4 + (5-6??) = 39 or 40K |
